Guest guest
Hi, I was wondering if anyone that has had surgery to release a tethered cord knows how much bone was removed by the surgeon to get at the cord. I was told and shown that at level L4-5 bone would be removed and I thought it was just the bone between the spinal processes. I recently had a regular x-ray of my back while at the Orthopedic MD and his comment was " boy, your surgeon took out a significant amount of bone " and then he told me and showed me that the surgeon removed not only the bone between the spinal processes but also all the processes on both sides. He also said that I have to understand that my surgeon had to do what he had to do to correct the ongoing problem. Is having this much bone removed normal or was it just because of my problem? I have yet to ask my neurosurgeon. Well as a result of this I have an unstable lower spine meaning from L-5 down thru the scral area on both sides when I move about (walking, bending, sitting etc)the bone doesn't move in alignment but slip and shift. This is more painful than having neuropathy from the scar tissue and now my primary MD and my Orthopedic MD says because of all the scar tissue and this new problem I'm permanently disabled. I still can't bring myself to stop working and I want to work as much as I can this year and then say I'm done. take care gloria
