Guest guest
Perhaps there are no truly modern images of god in play. It seems to me that something is just beginning to come together, at least in certain people who are open to the unc.Carol------------------------------------- The incoming Age suggests that the challenge is to find "God" as our Divine Guest within us n then - surprise! - to discover that it is the SAME Div Guest in evbody else! The same fire burns on ev candle - n as Jung shouted at me in my dream: CONSIDER THE OBVIOUS! I DID. "God is a circle whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere." Empedocles., but quoted by many others. Suggests the holographic universe.......... But seriously, this is where Jung comes in, bec he defines the Self as that center dwelling in the unconscious of each of us - the Christ w/in; the atman, this is demonstrated by the midpoint of the circle. A point has no dimension - it is/is not the Self but it connects us to the Mystery beyond time/space.. The ego "circumambulates" the Self, says Jung. So we get a circle w/a dot in middle, w/ego on circumference. Aha! that is the astronomical symbol for the Sun in any almanac n the metallurgic symbol for GOLD. What more can be said, if one can think symbolically! A daisy demonstrates unity/diversity; a dandelion poof, a 3-dim of an enlightened being! or a pom-pom. A dodecahedron demonstrates that u cn put say, 12 ping-pong balls [same size] around a center n each will touch the other. Think 12 disciples, Tribes of Israel, signs of Zodiac etc. etc. - a solar symbol. See my THE WEB IN THE SEA for more wonders. If Jung suggests our desperate need to think symbolically, the way is to see things w/new eyes n delight. "The Philosopher's Stone is found by looking with the eyes and seeing with the heart," Petrus Bonus, the alchemist. Also said to be 'lying on the road and wagonwheels roll over it." Nothing is hidden, it is we who are blind! - Gezeebius Paracelsus, to quote Jung, called this 'das Zuwerfen der Natur" - hard to translate. The silent upthrusting of nature. Testimony. Shakespeare: Find tongues in trees, books in running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything. -- "As You Like It" So perhaps this is a clue to the new imago dei. If nature can be a guide, at least it is manifest, palpable, n visible. The hidden wonders are the geometric secrets displayed. But few are taught how to discern them or what they imply. "God geometrizes.". Bode's Law - look it up - pts out that the proportions of separate distances fr Sun out to Saturn [incl asteroid belt] are the same as notes of a scale on a guitar string. Think Pythagoras ' "Music of the Spheres"...... The trick seems to be to take that 4th step beyond the 3 of science n ask yrself what might the spiritual implication be. So thru the visible u approach the invisible n make them One - the unus mundus. As u cn see, this is simple n obvious. But there is joy in wisdom n wisdom in joy. Hagia Sophia [Holy Wisdom] in the O.T. is 'full of delight' . As Jung wrote: :I don't think God is interested in theology!" "The visible is a theophany of the Invisible." Phew! Time for my ish Communion love Silly Old Woman ao
Guest guest
Dear Alice..you write that thru the visible we approach the invisible. That is how my paintings are created. I simply look around at the world, the natural world mostly, and the unc tells me stories, things it wants me to know and paint. It will take a simple object and highlight it by giving me a numinous feeling as I look at it. As you say, finding the sacred in the commonplace seems to be the dynamism of the new age. <<<3 Carol ----- Original Message ----- > > Shakespeare: Find tongues in trees, books in running brooks, sermons in > stones, and good in everything. -- " As You Like It " > > So perhaps this is a clue to the new imago dei.
