Guest guest
Hi Roxanna! It can happen very quickly. Did you try a different office from the same practice? Or using a different doctor w/ in the same practice? The reason I ask is this. I wanted to see Dr. A - best in my city. Dr. A has a few offices. In one office, I could see him in September, the other in October. I called back and the receptionist said, " I'd feel comfortable sending my mother to any of these docs here. " So, I asked when next appt was with another doctor - this was on Wednesday. They had an opening TODAY (but I had no childcare.) Rather than waiting until September, I'm going in on July 12 to see this lady doctor. Sometimes branching out to different options can help A LOT. Even keeping the appt from further away but getting a sooner one w/ a different doc for the time being is a better option than waiting for so long when it's progressing so quickly. Guest guest
Hi Roxanna: When I was first dx, I was begun on Plaquenil 400 mg., twice daily, along with Motrin and also had Prednisone until the Plaq started to kick in, about six weeks if I remember correctly. Plaquenil does not require that you have the lab work done like other meds such as Methotrexate and Arava, because it does not cause liver enzymes to rise. When you are on Plaquenil you do have to have regular eye exams for the very rare side effect of retinal damage - very rare. I did really well on it and the Motrin for about 2 years or so. It was the one that my doctor and I decided to try first because of it has the least amount of side effects. Then I went on to Methotrexate, and also tried Arava which gave me a lot of stomach problems. I am still on Mtx. As far as price, these types of DMARDs are the least expensive - probably Mtx is the least expensive of those I have mentioned. When you get to the biologics you are looking at more expense. Check into those patient assistance programs that a posted - you might be able to get more reasonable prices through them. Where in Southern California are you - are you near Lake Elsinore or in Riverside County?
