For those of you that have not seen the message on the web site, you may

want to take a look at this:

http://groups.yahoo.com/local/service.html

Although it is not terribly likely that any of the messages to this

group will have such a title, it is still a possibility.

For those of you without web access... due to problems with virus

transmission through groups that allow attachments (and since AutAdvo

and Treehouse do not, we should be exempt, but Yahoo... ah, never mind

::grumble::), Yahoo is temporarily blocking posts via email that have

one of these titles:

# test

# hi

# hello

# Mail Delivery System

# Mail Transaction Failed

# Server Report

# Status

# Error

So, if you send a post with one of those, you will get an error message

from Yahoo. It is a cheap-donkey way of filtering virus posts-- a lot

less CPU intensive than actually scanning attachments for a virus.

If I were running Yahoogroups, rather than blindly denying posts with

those titles, I would have it deny posts WITH ATTACHMENTS using those

titles, and only to groups that allow attachments (those that do not

will have the attachments stripped anyway). Better yet, I would have it

scan all attachments before they are distributed.

But they did not ask me. I don't object to actions to limit virus

transmission, or even to protect Yahoogroups from the increase in

bandwidth that the virus uses. I object to poorly thought out

limitations, like blindly rejecting messages with certain titles.
