Guest guest
Hello everyone-I am new to the group also new to computers so forgive my ediquette. I have a two year old son who was born very premature at 29 weeks, 2.4 pounds. He had a dimple abouve his buttocks when he was born. When he came home I asked the doctor about it. He said it was normal. After a few months my sons gross motor skills were not developing very well. They suggested he may have Cerebralpalsy and needed an MRI. The MRI suggested he may have a TSC. We went to see a pediatricneurologist. This doctor rubbed me the wrong way. My son has some symptoms the dimple, not walking, no reflexes in his legs. He is not potty trained yet. We were all scheduled for surgery but something inside said I needed a second opinion, due to my feelings about the doctor I couldn't let him operate on my son. We went to Stanford, we live in California. I saw another doctor and he said no way does this kid have TSC. I was very confused. We got a third opinion the Director of Pediatricneurosurgery at Stanford and he said the same. No TSC. Of course we were very relieved. Well 2 years later my son runs (with caution) and is very bright. The tethered cord issue came up again because he still has no reflexes and his feet are turned in slightly. They want to do another MRI. I am feeling guilty for not doing the surgery. But what other decision could be made at the time. Any advice? My biggest worry is the surgery and the recovery! Thanks Everyone
