Jan,

That is such good news. And you don't have to apologize. It is only natural we

go through some of your emotions with you as you do for everyone else. And we

know you well enough from all you have done for Jim, if there were any way for

you to make him better, you would do it.

I am happy it is such that someone doesn't have a good vocabulary rather than

Jim being sick.. (Grin!)

Again glad to hear Jim's color is better, sores are getting care and he on the

mend.

Hugs,

Donna R

a nh.

Editing last update on Jim

OMG! everything took a turn for the better today and I will never come on again

and say a word, until Jim is actually, really, absolutely confirmed to be at the

end, because I am now begining tofeel like the boy (girl)that cried,

" Wolf " and when it really happens no one will listen or believe me, so I am

going to keep quiet about Jim's prognosis until the end.

I was a basket case when the phone rang very late at night or very earlyin

the AM. The nurse said the fax results from the X-Ray showed aCollapsed Lung

and I repeated, " A Collapsed Lung? " Her accent is very thick and she said, " Yes,

something like that " I asked, " Does Jim have Pneumonia? " and she said, " No " So

I assumed she did say, Collapsed Lung. Today, when I went to visit Jim thinking

the worst, I saw the DON in the hallway and she said, " How are you? " I said, " I

could be better, since Iheard Jim has a Collapsed Lung. " She said, " What?! "

and ran for the medical chart. Jim does not have a Collapsed Lung, he has

Aspiration Pneumonia. BIG HUGE difference. He is only being treated for the UTI

withantibiotics, they said the Aspiration Pneumonia will go away on its own.

As for the wound in the private area, they are optimistic that it was caught

early and everything is going to clear up on that too. That is if Jim doesn't

play around, because he

is diaper free, they don't want to irritate the wound with a diaper rubbing

against it. I think I can deal with all this and Jim was doing fine when I went

into see him. I was expecting the worst. His coloring looked bad yesterday, he

was very ashen looking. I think the anitbiotics are already working. His good

nature was back today too. I apologize to everyone, I really overreacted from

that call. I wish these people could speak more clearly. The wound, the UTI and

then that call really sent me over theedge.I am going to gain my composure

now and I will not speak a word about Jim until I am 100% sure of everything

double checked and checked again.

I am embarrassed that some cried along with me and all the emotions that I

caused, when there are really people losing their LOs. I thank you for being

here and all your support. I'm so sorry to everyone, but I think Jim is going

to be ok from what I saw today with him, he is already feeling better.

Hi, Jan,

This is fantastic news!! I am so relieved that Jim is doing better. As far

as " crying wolf " , there is no such thing with LBD. We are here to go

through the ups and downs with you. We sure don't want you going through all

this

alone. It seems like I went into panic mode on a daily basis in the later

stages of Dad's journey. The most important thing is that Jim is on the

upswing!

Love and hugs,

Jan: I'm so glad to hear your worst fears were not true. I hope the aspiration

pneumonia doesn't continue and am surprised that it goes away on its own. As

you know, Darrell had that, but I believe they did give him antibiotics for it.

Don't apologize for getting upset. Sounds as if you have some of the problems

we do, not being able to understand some of the accents.

Take care. June

Jan,

Please don't hold back and wait for certainty. We are a support group and we

it turns out

My

so he

usually gave me the phone to find out what was happening with my Mother.

I'm glad Jim is better.

Hi June,

It is of great relief to see Jim doing so well yesterday and that it wasn't the

worst that I had thought.

I asked the floor nurse yesterday if Jim was on two separate antibiotics for the

UTI and Aspiration Pneumonia and she said no, he is on only one for the UTI and

that nothing is given for Aspiration Pneumonia, that it goes away on it's on. It

has been sunny here, so I took him outside to breathe in some fresh air and get

some sun and maybe the air and sun will dry out some of the aspiration in his

lungs. That is my thought anyway. I know walking and some deep breathing would

help, but he can't walk and he doesn't understand to breathe deep breaths. I

sure hope they know what they are doing by not giving Jim medication for the

Aspiration Pneumonia. I hope they are doing the right thing. I don't know if

antibiotics go to that one general area that they are supposed to help or maybe

the one he is taking for the UTI could help the Pneumonia a little bit too.

My only fear now is all the antibiotics he has been on in the last three weeks.

I am making sure he gets a lot of cultured bacteria in milk on cereal. He will

not eat Yogurt or drink a straight glass of milk, but he likes it on cereal, so

I bring a box of cereal to the nh and make sure he gets it when I am there. The

nurses keep the milk in their frig. at the nurse's station.

It is very hard to understand the nurses on the phone. In person, I can get a

better idea of what they are saying.

I'm glad you all understand this emotional roller coaster of not knowing if you

are up or down. My ride lately is a wild one of ups and downs. I can say we are

going up again.

Thanks for your understanding,  Jan

, it did feel good to have a good cry. I was having my own Pity Party

and it did release a lot of pent in stressful emotions. But at the same time, I

had a huge Pit in my stomach. I am sure glad to get rid of that Pit!

Jan

Re: Editing last update on Jim

Jan- YAY! :) No apologies necessary! We're just happy that Jim is OK.

It's hard to be mad at the lady w/ the accent when it turns out to be

better for Jim. But it is frustrating that you wasted so much energy

with the release of emotions and it wasn't necessary. Although a good

cry tends to make you feel good too - so maybe it was good for you. I

bet you slept well last night. Take care and as we know you will, take

care of Jim. :) :)

Thanks Donna,

The nurse that called used the latin medical term for Aspiration Pneumonia and

there was something in the way she said the word that I interpreted to mean

Collapsed and when I questioned it, I didn't understand her reply with the

accent and I don't think she was understanding me either when I asked if Jim has

Pneumonia and she said, " No " I was trying to go another angle to see if I was

right about interpreting the word to mean Collapsed and she said, " It is

something like that " so, I came to the conclusion she meant Collapsed. If she

had just said,  " Aspiration Pneumonia " I would have probably understood that. I

think she was reading it straight off the fax. So, in my all ready state of

turmoil about Jim's health in the last three weeks, I made myself even more

stressed out emotionally.

Thanks for your concern and support..................Hugs, Jan

Editing last update on Jim

OMG! everything took a turn for the better today and I will never come on again

and say a word, until Jim is actually, really, absolutely confirmed to be at the

end, because I am now begining to feel like the boy (girl) that cried, " Wolf "

and when it really happens no one will listen or believe me, so I am going to

keep quiet about Jim's prognosis until the end.

I was a basket case when the phone rang very late at night or very early in the

AM. The nurse said the fax results from the X-Ray showed a Collapsed Lung and I

repeated, " A Collapsed Lung? " Her accent is very thick and she said, " Yes,

something like that "  I asked, " Does Jim have Pneumonia? " and she said, " No " So I

assumed she did say, Collapsed Lung. Today, when I went to visit Jim thinking

the worst, I saw the DON in the hallway and she said, " How are you? " I said, " I

could be better, since I heard Jim has a Collapsed Lung. " She said, " What?! " and

ran for the medical chart. Jim does not have a Collapsed Lung, he has Aspiration

Pneumonia. BIG HUGE difference. He is only being treated for the UTI

with antibiotics, they said the Aspiration Pneumonia will go away on its own. As

for the wound in the private area, they are optimistic that it was caught early

and everything is going to clear up on that too. That is if Jim doesn't play

around, because he

is diaper free, they don't want to irritate the wound with a diaper rubbing

The wound, the UTI and

then that call really sent me over the edge. I am going to gain my composure now

and I will not speak a word about Jim until I am 100% sure of everything double

Jan, we all know how up and down this disease is, especially if they are having

some problems, it is understandable we think the worst. The main thing is that

it wasn't the collapsed lung. Aspiration pneumonia is very serious, too,

especially if it happens often.

It's good he is feeling better. And, those antibiotics do take a toll after

being on them so long.

As I think I've said before, Jim must have nine lives!!!
