Sounds so familar. This sounds like me all the time. I have RA, OA, Fibro and

DDD (degenerative disc disease.) Personally I think the last one is the

culprit. There is such crunching in my neck all the time. Some days I cannot

even hold my neck upright. And it will come on so quickley. Nothing seems to

help the pain. I may be wrong, but this is what I feel it is. I have no discs

left in my spine. SO every move I make is crunchy and snap crackel pop. It

makes a rough morning. Hope this helped.

Could I be getting osteoporosis? I'm 40 years old, RA for five years,

on various doses of prednisone most of the time. Does anyone else have

Hi .

My ankles, knees, neck and especially my elbows - crack/pop all the

time. Sometimes the joint gets temporarily locked or stuck, and it finally

releases with a forceful crack.

Oh, the fun of RA.....lol

My neck doesn't pop, but it seems everything else does. My legs really

Mine has been crackling for about 2 months, and for about a month

before that (but stopped). It is driving me NUTS. I also have the

sensation of the need to stretch or " pop " my neck on the right side,

and soreness on the left. My Dr. didn't feel anything, and sent me to

a chiropractor. He's ordering xrays...the thinks there is something

going on, but doesn't know what. He's treating it with electrotherapy

and ultrasound therapy for now. It does feel better immediately after

treatment, but comes back within a day or two. Now he's on vacation

for a week and a half, and I'm slowly going insane! It is keeping me

up half the night constantly trying to stretch and relief that dang

sensation! Argh!

Dear ,

Howdy! Boy, YES! Do I ever! My neck is a mess! And a noisy one at

that -and I think most of the time I am the only one who can hear it.

But what troubles me a little about your " noisy neck, " is when you say:

" Is it the RA? Could I be getting osteoporosis? I'm 40 years old, RA

for five years, on various doses of prednisone most of the time. "

Prednisone is a huge culprit for osteoporosis, as you may know. Have

you had a baseline bone density scan? And I don't mean one of

those " wham-Bam! " scans that only reads the ankle! I mean the REAL

ones: they measure densities in the upper, mid, and lower spine, and

the hips. Anyone on on-again, off-again Prednisone should be scanned

every two years (especially with high risk factors: early menapause,

on thyroid replacement, dont take calcium and vitamin D, female-

obviously)

OsteoPenia, osteoporosises pre-curser, can be noisy with creaks,

cracks, and pops, but generally is not painful. Osteoporosis, on the

other hand, can be VERY painful. Amount of " noise " is NOT indicative

of severity of disease process, though pain can be, especially w/

osteoporosis as it can indicate damage due to inflammation and/or

fractures. Hope this helps :)
