I am not new but have not written very often but if I see something that I can

contribute to then I like to do that.

I was told by the pharmacist to put the tape on the edges also and not through

the middle. When I first started using the 50's I was putting them on my front

side as it was the easiest but I kept getting very nauseous especially at night.

This went on for sometime then decided to read word for word the directions.

This was in the Duragesic package about two years ago. It recommended the arms,

shoulders, or back anyplace above the waist. I did this and no longer had the

sick feeling.

I had to go to the 75's every two days to get stability for relief. It

definitely helps but not totally.

I took neurontin before lyrica was known. When I went to the higher dosage of

1600mg. a day, I would sleep a lot when I sat down in my recliner and also found

myself going North when I should have been going South. Just kidding on that

point but I did fall into walls at times and was very unsteady ane would hold

onto my husband when we went out. Lyrica does not do this to me although it can

make me sleepy but I am also taking a narcotic for pain in my back that can do

that. If I do not want to sleep then I get up and do something for a little

while. I can't be on my feet too long though at a time.

I have gained five lbs this winter but can't blame it on anything but food.

Since I do not like to get out in the cold, I tend to like to snack. I really

am not overweight as I have always been on the lighter side.

I have the lidoderm patches and do not use them anymore but I don't think I

would want to flush them down the toilet. The fentanyl patches do get flushed

as they are not very big. Just follow their directions.

This is getting long so will stop for now and look through the messages and see

if there is anything else that I might apply to help if I have tried it. I have

never tried any other drugs but the ones I am on now except for the neurontin.

Don't quit neurontin cold turkey. When I went on the lyrica, it was not

explained very well to me and that is what I did. I was in so much pain I was

beside myself. I was told to gradually decrease the neurontin and increase the

lyrica. I take the 75's 3x's a day. I do enjoy everyones posts. Lois

I have used the lidoderm patches and if my pain was low they helped

alot but on very painful days they didn't help much at all. I am now

on the 25 mcg fentanyl patches and I was told to put the patches on

my upper arms, side, or chest. They stick the best on my chest but

they do cause red blotchiness sometimes. I also break out with a

bunch of lil pimples under the patch. I am still in alot of pain with

the 25 fentanyl patches and 10mg oxycodone for break through so I

need to talk to my dr about going up to the 50 mcg patches. I just

hope they don't make me feel drugged.

> No they aren't for localized pain. And yes they will go all through

your body, even if you are obese. I'm obese too Gayla and I didn't

have any problems like that, so I assume you wouldn't either.

Personally, I didn't like the patch because they are hard to keep on,

you can't be in the heat with them on, which I don't like heat

anyway. Just don't get them hot as in using a heating pad or electric

blanket with them, that can cause an over dose. One of my sisters did

this and had to go to the ER. Heat of that sort intensifies the

affect of them. I always wore them on my upper arm. Other than that

and after 3 days of them being on, I'd have scabbing around where

they were when I take it off. But that heals while you have the patch

on the other arm. You want to alternate arms and also places on the

arm. You can put them on your thighs and back too. I'm not sure about

the chest. I have put the nicotine patches on my chest, but not sure

about those. That is something to ask your doc about for sure. The

Lidocane patches are good for localized pain. I don't know how good

they are as I've never used them. But they are prescription too.
