Prayer Ministry idea

Dear Friends ...

This list serves as so much tremendous support for us, but there are times

when we just need something more to hold on to. I know we are all praying

for 's well-being.

I want to tell you about a ministry that might be useful to our group.

At my church, we have a " beeper ministry " . When someone is ill, having

surgery, or going through a particularly hard time, they are offered a beeper.

That beeper phone number is distributed to our congregation. When someone

prays for the person who has the beeper, they call the number and can put in

their phone number or just 111111's. The person who has the beeper does NOT

call back, but is reassured that at that very moment, there is someone

specifically in prayer for that individual. It is very comforting. If the

moderators

of this list agree, this is something that could be helpful to us all, as

there is something equally important in giving the page as there is in

receiving the page.

I know we may not all have beepers, pagers or cell phones, but if some of us

do, we could send an email to the group when we are TRULY needing extensive

prayer and give our number so that others can pray for us and lift us up in

prayer. To those who don't have a way of connecting in this way, an email

always works well too. I think it is important to use this only when suffering

is extensive as we don't want this to be an exhaustive process. NOTE: the

pages are not intended to be called back.

The email could be something like:

I am heading to surgery today at 3 PM and would appreciate the prayers of

this fabulous group. If you would page me at xxx-xxx-xxxx and let me know you

have prayed for me by putting in a number I would be so grateful.

If this idea doesn't work for this group (and it may not), then feel free to

take this idea to other support groups that you may have, including any

religious or spiritual organization you may be a part of.

I know first-hand that this is a powerful tool!
