My children don't have any computer or electronic games. Well, they have a couple computer games that are for spelling but those were donated, and they have way outgrown Reader Rabbit...lol

I have been struggling for several years with this one. At times I think I want to get them some sort of playstation or X-box, but then I always talk myself out of it because we so desperately want them (especially my oldest 10 y/o) to get out of the house.

I noticed when my oldest was about 3 that she really had no imagination. I determined it was because she had too much. When I was little, you could give me a box and some crayons and I would figure something out. My children could not do this. If you gave them a box, they would go throw it away...LOL I had to teach both of my girls how to play Barbie (which they both hate to this day) because they just didn't understand what to do with some doll that didn't talk or do flips or anything...So, I stopped buying video movies and did not start buying any games other than board games for the whole family to play.

Then my plight, a couple years ago became getting them out of the house in the summer. I was "Out" from dawn til dusk as a child, but I noticed that my children wanted to hang out all day long in the house with the adults. As flattering as that may be....lol.... I really wanted them to be more physically active and less attached to my hip. So, we started buying them scooters, bikes, skates, rollerblades, hoola hoops, a pool...etc. We even bought 2-way radios so I could feel more comfortable with them going farther away. Now they can go 3-4 blocks and I can still communicate with them via the cb's.. We were trying anything to get them outside. Finally, my youngest got some little neighborhood friends and at the age of 7, she goes outside all day long like a normal child! :-)

My oldest is another story. She just is not physically active at all. Most of her friends are 3-6 years older than her, which kind of worries me. She is trying to grow up way too fast. She would still rather, hang out with the adults and/or go work at my sister's daycare (Which is the only time she ever gets on her bike than be a kid who plays and explores...

This year, I am thinking again of buying them some sort of t.v. game. Don't know if I should. I know they also have their benefits, with coordination and such but... Then listening to you ladies, maybe it would give ME something else to do, when I am stuck at home....LOL

Hey, I am a firm believer in the premise of parents being able to play with their childrens toys, games and computers.... Afterall we gave them life ;-D hehehehehehehehe

Now where are those Hot Wheels.........
