Hey, I already got a response from the writer!

That's how we roll at FOX40.com ;)

PS: The article has been fixed. I do my best to avoid using the phrase " Suffers

from " when it relates to a disability. As the brother of an austic individual, I

am aware and completey understanding of the sensitive phrasing when it relates

to those with any kind of handicap.  Occasionally, I slip up -- I only wish when

people called me out on it, they were as kind as you were instead of the angry

e-mails I sometimes receive.

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Okay, I'm just in one of those moods today.  You know the, okay, don't mess with

me/let's change the world.  I just can't stand the " suffering " sterotype of Down

Syndrome.  I had to write the writer the following.  Just wanted to share.

Maybe we can educate the world one person at a time.  The following I wrote.

In a recent article about " Sex Offender Arrested For Allegedly Molesting

Handicapped Daughter " you stated " A 51-year-old registered sex offender

has been arrested by authorities on charges of sexually assaulting his

adult biological daughter who suffers from Down Syndrome. "

I am letting you know you do not " suffer from Down Syndrome " .  She may

have suffered from having a molester for a father but she doesn't suffer

from DS.  She could suffer from medical conditions resulting from the DS

or she could have no medical conditions.

Sorry for going on a rampage.  I just figure this is how the public

becomes ignorant.  I don't want the suffering sterotype to propagate.  I

think people already have a low standard for those with Down Syndrome.

They do not know the fabulous people I know who happen to have it with

families, kids, careers, college degrees and blending in our society.

Thanks,

Char

Any time this happens and I see something written that says a person with Ds

" suffers " I always refer them to my article I wrote concerning this. I invite

you all do read this and do the same. This will help educate the public on what

Ds/mDs  is and what it isn't!

Like Casey says, He has Abilities.... there is nothing " dis " about him!

Here is the link to my article Do People with Down syndrome Suffer?
