June,

I'm so very sorry dear that your having such a terrible time right

now. I am glad to hear the knee replacement is doing good. Now

problems with the right, I hope they can fix it.

That is terrible it takes that long to get an appointment for your

eye check. June, your in my prayers, you are such a great lady.

Your always here for us, and were here for you now.

Hugs, Tawny

> Hi everyone, well, I am still dealing with no being able to see out

of my right eye, which I still think was done somehow in the

hospital. The cornea is still swollen and many scratches on the lens.

First available appt with the eye specialist is November. After this

I suffered with sciatica which has just started to simmer down. My

left knee replacement is really great. Then, about 2 weeks ago my

right knee (replaced 7 yrs ago) started paining and got to the point

where whenever I stood up, Don had to help me as the pain is

intolerable. Saw my GP today and he thinks I have a screw loose LOL---

----only kidding. He thinks the prosthesis's is drifting and sent me

for an x-ray. By a stroke of good luck the ortho that did the

replacement surgery 7 years ago will see me at the fracture clinic

Monday morning. Anyone know what procedure is done to fix this? Do I

really want to know? Monday night at 9pm I am going for a cat scan

since the resperologist is discounting everything the hospital

reported and believes it is the RA in my lungs. During this fun

time,I decided to go back on small doses of MTX to see if this along

with my Enbrel will help the RA. He also started me on Melcoxib since

Bextra is not available. Ten days later my feet and legs swelled to

triple in size. Started taking the " P " pill after getting off this

med and the next day fluid was running out of my right foot where I

had just had a Kenelog shot in my ankle. I am really hoping that I

can get back to my PP's teaching in September.

Ouch, June. I hope everthing urns out ok with your knee. Hopefully

it won't be anything to serious and it will correct itself. Is it

wise to wait until November to see the eye specialist? I would think

you should be seen sooner!! I would try and push up that date if you

can. Tell them what is going on and see if you can't be seen sooner.

I hope it all works out for you. As always you are in my

prayers.....Marina

June, so what happened at your ortho appointment?

I think it's time to call on the handsome Dr. Keystone for some help

(professional, that is). For starters, he can pull some strings for you so

you can get your eye taken care of promptly.

I'll tell you where to go!

, if it was not for bad luck I would have none at all LOL. The results are

that my 8 year old prosthesis is still in place which I was delighted to know.

On the other hand, he thinks there may be one or more hairline fractures or the

worst scenario, osteomylitis. I am scheduled for a gallium body scan on July 11

and he wants me to wear a splint to help with the pain until then. Thankfully,

all my doctors are believers in keeping their patients as pain free as possible.

I can remember the days when you had to beg for a narcotic and then count what

you had left to make sure you were not over the limit.

I saw Ed Keystone on my last visit to Viv Byekirk in June. They were getting a

resident ready for exams and used me for the teaching MSK part. I got more than

my share of hugs and kisses this time. Ed is a strong believer in hugging his

patients when they leave his office and they all adore him. He just had his

60th birthday but he sure doesn't look it. Believe it or not, getting an appt

with any specialist up here usually means a wait of usually a year or more so

the appt I have with the eye doc in November is a " rush " appt and they have me

on a cancellation list. I waited 1/2 years to get my left knee replaced which is

about the normal waiting time. Unless you are involved in the system, people

have no idea how bad it is getting. I have a friend who had his drivers license

taken away by his GP until he gets cataracts removed the end of July. He has

waited 14 mos.

Depending on the outcome of the body scan, I am looking forward to getting back

to teaching in the Fall but until then I am writing letters to politicians and

doing media interviews on the subject of waiting times for surgeries.

June,

You have really been through the wringer June. I'll not complain about

my medical care any more. I just hope that scan shows something that

is easily repairable in a short amount of time. Do you think it could

be from the added work that your right knee has been enduring since

getting your left one replaced? I've had 7 various surgical procedures

done on my knees, and each time the unaffected knee has flared, which I

attributed to the excess stress put on it.

I had my left knee replaced in 2001,. at the age of 34. Had to go to a joint

specialist in downtown Pgh,. as now one would touck me due to myage! (had been

married 1.5 yrs and had been at my then new job only10 months) Ended up falling

in rehad 5 days post-op and 1 week later,. had to had a 2nd replacement! In the

end,. it was the best thing I ever did! No pain at all! I now need the right one

done,. from 25 yrs of overuse on that knee and the RA just finally eating away

at the joint. To have no pain after 25 yrs of chronic,. constant, everyday pain

is unbelievasble! sherri in pa
