Hi, Beth. I didn't mean to scare you. I usually post that article when

people are wondering about issues involving the cervical spine in RA. You

haven't mentioned findings that are anything like the complications

illustrated.

Degenerative disc disease (DDD) and spondylosis are terms that are sometimes

used interchangeably and are nonspecific. Unfortunately, the meaning of the

words depends on who is using them.

Some sources use spondylosis to describe arthritic changes that occur as a

result of or along with DDD, such as the formation of osteophytes (bony

outgrowths or spurs) on the rims of the vertebrae and at the facet joints

which can lead to symptoms such as pain, loss of range of motion, numbness,

or weakness.

As they age, most people will eventually have DDD or spondylosis, but most

won't have serious symptoms or problems.
