Guest guest
Hello - I don't post often but learn so much every day from everyone's input in this group so thank you. My son will turn one in June and has MDS. He's doing great - had AVSD repair and craniosynstosis repair both which he came though with flying colors. He's an inspiration! I had a few questions for the group regarding care / education and I'm looking for guidance. Right now he's in Early Steps (we live in New Orleans LA - anyone else out there living here let me know!) and has OT/PT/Speech and a special educator each week. All have been awesome and given the medical stuff he's been through they all think he's doing wonderfully. Both my husband and I work so he's at home with a sitter and his older sister goes to an great daycare where she has flourished. We wanted to get through the surgeries free of sickness etc but they are past us now. We think we want to also put at the same school as his sister. It's such a fantastic place and we think it will be motivational, great socialization and he'll just have fun! But on the flip side I worry about overload. But at some point they have to get out there right? Do one of us stop working and stay home with him? We are also considering a move out of New Orleans b/c the educational systems here are not good. Public is almost out of the question and I'm not sure what private " has " to offer for - if anything? I was hoping you all might have insight into what cities / states have good public school systems etc. Do private/parochial schools cooperate and offer services? I do realize from reading posts that it's a challenge no matter where you are but I would think some places are better than others??? Any insight on these questions would be greatly apprciated. I'm sorry we won't be able to make the conference but plan to attend the next one! Thank you, Janey Nackley Mom to (2) and MDS - almost ONE!
