Jan,

They do have phones you can only anwer, you can't call out on them. Maybe you

could tell her a " Loving lie " and say the phone must be " broke. " I think they

have that phone in the AD store. Maybe can help with getting to the

site.

If you go to the bottom of this message, there might be something about the AD

newspaper. (Alzheimers) in the links or files.

Hugs,

Donna R

Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in

a nh.

She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.

Bach's Rescue Remedy

I have a 22-year-old daughter who has been suffering from mild

anxiety attacks. Her doctor prescribed Paxil, but she was too

worried about the side-effects to take it.

I also have anxiety attacks, my doctor prescribed Ativan, and I don't

like to take drugs of any kind. It's a battle to get me to take an

Aleve for my fibromyalgia.

So...after reading in here about Rescue Remedy, I decided that she

and I should give it a try, and believe me...it works! So there's

always something to be learned from coming here and reading things

that may not, at first glance, be anything you can use. I'm always

open to homeopathic remedies, etc., over taking chemical

combinations. I don't know about my Mom...we'll give it a try this

week for her. Perhaps it will keep her from calling 911, which she

did TWICE yesterday, telling them that my brother's house was on

fire. Dad accidentally left the phone with her after she talked with

her sister during one of her increasingly less-frequent lucid

periods.

One of the counselors at school asked if we could just give her a

fake phone...can you imagine how that would go over in a lucid

period?

Here's the link to the Alzheimer's Store:

http://www.alzstore.com/

Look up " dial-less phone " from their product list.

Kinda scary looking though. I think it reminds me of a Twilight Zone

episode... LOL

Jannis,

A friend's grandaughter (10 years old) seems to be having anxiety problems.

Can you tell me what you and your daughter are taking that is helping?

Where did you get the Rescue Remedy? I know it was

posted awhile back, but I didn't keep it. My

15-year-old granddaughter is having a bad time right

now, as is a 9-year old great grandson with bipolar.

What my daughter and I are using is called " Bach's Rescue Remedy " . It is a

plant extract formula, and it is an oral spray, much like the old Binaca spray.

If you feel an anxiety attack coming on, you simply spray it on your tongue (2

sprays). The effects are almost instantaneous.

I got it at a health food store by me, Akin's Natural Foods. You can order it

online at drugstore.com, and other stores that carry homeopathic or natural

remedies. Its ingredients are rose rock, clematis, impatiens, and a couple of

other flower extracts. It has a very pleasant taste. The only caveat would be

that it is 27% alcohol (in a brandy carrier), but you have to understand that it

is less than any mouth wash, cough medicine, etc., and even if you used the

entire 20 ml container at one time, you would be getting less than 20 ml of

alcohol. At $17.95 for 20 ml canister, there are much cheaper ways to enjoy

one's intake of brandy.

Gimme a brandy, ...

HI Norma,

I used to give mom Valerian drops and it was helpful. I don't think it had any

alcohol in it. Found it at my favorite health food store.

Well, my daughter is almost 23, and I'm...uh...of a certain age...*LOL* Neither

of us have any problems with alcohol, and if you stop to think that the entire

20 ml bottle, even if you drank it all at once, at 27% alcohol...5 ml = 1

tsp...4 tsp x 27% = less than 1 tsp of alcohol.

Sometimes ya gotta do the math.

Hi, all -

Just jumping in here head first - although as I can't find the original

exchange about valerian, I'm probably repeating what someone else already said.

I've taken valerian and found it helpful. Those of us sensitive to the benzo

family will proceed cautiously, though, as valerian is a rather near relative of

valium.
