Guest guest
Now is that time of year when I update the birthday list! If you are not on it and wish to be, please send me a private e-mail. If you want to make sure that you are on it, let me know and I'll check for you! The birthday list for all, is a listing of our birthdays which we celebrate on the list with good wishes. It's a fun way to celebrate your special day with your CEDAfamily! Guest guest
Hi Jill -- I don't think you have my birthday -- 9/27 (never mind the year... Having said that, I wonder if it's a good idea to send all these birthday well wishes to the list. It seems like there are sometimes several birthdays in a week and all the mail wishing happy birthday occupies a third of the mail generated by the list, which is a lot. I find this list to be both informative and enjoyable, but also takes a lot of time to sift through the high volume of messages. Is anyone else concerned about the high noise/signal ratio on this list? Of course there's always the delete key, but I'm just trying to think of better ways to reduce the noise... Take care and happy new year!!!! --le Birthday List Updates > Now is that time of year when I update the birthday list! If you are not on > it and wish to be, please send me a private e-mail. Guest guest
I brought up the birthday lists to Jill privately. I had made the suggestion about just announcing the birthday's for the week and on the day of the person's birthday. On one fun list I'm one which has over 300 members, one person is in charge of the birthday list. It's fun to see who is also born on that same day that were well known people, etc. Jill said I could poll people on this. So, how many of you would like just the announcement of the birthday and we send emails/cards to them privately? I'd much rather prefer that way... It's actually more fun to see the cards IN your own private mailbox...<G> For Olivia, who is born on 1/1 (happy birthday Olivia!) Here is an example: She shares this day with: Langella, actor (I rather liked his 'Dracula') Dana s, actor J D Salinger, novelist E M Forster, novelist Xavier Cugat, bandleader Fox, movie producer & founder of 20th Century Fox Rocky Graziano, boxer J Edgar Hoover, founder of the FBI Kim Philby, spy Albert , physicist & engineer (developed radar) Lorenzo de Medici, head of state (Florence) Revere, revolutionary & silversmith ( " The British are coming!! " - he was right <g>) Betsy Ross, revolutionary and flagmaker (reputed to have made the first Union flag) It is also the anniversary of (among many others): 1502 Portuguese explorers landed at a harbour on the coast of S America and named it 'River of January'. * 1622 January 1 became first day of the year; before this it was 25 March. 1701 Union of Great Britain and Ireland created the United Kingdom (Yay!). 1772 First travellers cheques issued, in London. 1785 'Daily Universal Register' first published (London again); it later became 'The Times'. 1801 First (and biggest) asteroid discovered (not in London) - Ceres. 1896 WIlliam Roentgen announced the discovery of X-rays. 1898 New York become a city formed of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island and the Bronx. 1927 Massachusetts became the first state to require auto insurance. (wonder why?) 1961 Largest cheque issued, for $960.242 billion, National Bank of Chicago to Sears. Whew! You should see the rest of the list! Anyway, a very happy birthday, (person's name), hope you had a good one! * get it yet? Rio de Janeiro!

Guest guest
Bonnie, I have no strong opinion. What ever is decided is fine with me. Guest guest
Sounds like a good idea to me... I vote to announce birthdays along with associated trivia for that date, but let greetings be sent privately. --le Re: Birthday List Updates > I brought up the birthday lists to Jill privately.
