Per Stedman's Medical Dictionary desquamation is the shedding of the cuticle

in scales or of the outer layer of any surface.

I'm quite sure I've had this term before but for the life of me I cannot

seem to pull it from the recesses of my brain! Any ideas how to spell

it?
