Guest guest
Trudy- I've been where you are - scared, sick and without health insurance. I have found that, believe it or not there. Unfortunately, most of these often options seem 'underground.' They aren't well advertised and few (who don't need them are aware of them). I have also found that unfortunately to few mainstream doctor's know about these resources. (they don't have to) One such option (and I'm not sure of your religious affiliation) could be a Christian Health Clinic. In many communities Dr.s have partnered together and created health clinics. The way you found about them is to ask around, look under churches and see if anyone offers medical services, or to find a neighborhood center/ or community center that provides services for those in need - they often have great resource information. You can also sometimes get care at the Public Hospital in your community. Many times they have clinic services available on a sliding scale for those without Medicaid. The great thing about getting connected to these clinics is that they have people on staff who can help you 'navigate' through the forms for things like Medicaid/drug companies 'compassion' programs...... Finally, check to see if you State has an 'insurance' program for those who are uninsured. I lived in Indiana for a while and the state had a 'health care advantage' program offering full medical coverage and discounted prescriptions services - on a sliding scale. You can call the Department of Health to find out what your options are. I hope you can get connected to medical care soon! IL
