  • 9 years later...

Ricky had Nystagmus at birth. It appears he has somehow just " grown out of it " .

He is six now and the last time I saw his eyes vibrate was approximately one

year ago. We did not do any treatments for this so I apologize for not having

more information for you. Just three weeks ago, we saw Dr. Steinkuller at TX

Children's who noted zero signs of Nystagmus and/or Strabismus. Ricky now wears

glasses to correct near-sightedness but that is the extent of his eye-troubles

at this time. I hope you find many more useful answers from other parents.

Subject: Nystagmus

Hi Everyone

I got this question from another group that I moderate and was wondering if one

of you could answer it. I know several of you have dealt with this.

Hi ! My 1 yr old daugther has a eye problem called Nystagmus. Her

eyeballs keep on vibrate in order to focus well. Does any parents here

come across this problem ? Any treatment can be done ?

Thanks,

I do not know the answer but I will print it out and ask Isabella vision

therapist.  She comes on Thursday evening.

I asked Zoe's early interventionist about this today when she came by. (she is

with SC school for the deaf and blind). Apparently this is when the eyes

flutter to try to focus. It is seen at birth and children with this will turn

their heads to the side to be able to focus better. She said it is normally in

conjunction with some kind of neurological disorder (in other words, there is

usually something else going on - not just nystagmus). There is no treatment

and you do not out grow it. Hope this helps.
