Guest guest
Actually, she wasn't okay. She was born at 27 and a half weeks gestation, and weighed 2 lbs. 5 oz. (But I was satisfied with that because they all told me there was no way I could hold that baby in until she was big enough to survive.) She spent almost 4 months in the hospital (95 miles away from me. The same hospital I was in for 7 weeks, 95 miles away from anyone I knew) We went to see her every weekend except for Mother's day. We just couldn't afford to make the trip that weekend, and I felt so bad because for mother's day the nurses had made a little card with her footprints on it, and I didn't even show up. :( But anyway.....she was there for almost 4 months, and came home with oxygen and a monitor to wear at night so we'd know if she stopped breathing. (She never did, but it's horrifying to hear that thing go off during the night, and then see that she'd just wiggled around and loosened the cords.) We also found out that she had a hemorrhage in her brain when she was 2 days old. A lot of preemies have them, but usually they have grades 1 and 2. Ashleigh was grade 3. BAD. She learned to sit up at 15 months, started walking at 26 months. And she's autistic. She talks like a typical 18-24 months old rather than a 4 and a half year old. But she's learning, and if she's come this far, who knows?? The odd thing is that she somehow managed to NOT have the cerebral palsy that a lot of BIGGER premies have. I know of some that were as big as your twins that can't even walk because of their CP. Ashleigh's is so mild.....she has tremors in her hands and a little tighter muscles in her legs than she should have, but that's it. Was your baby okay after that even after your water broke??? I had twins at 30 weeks and they were 2 lbs 13oz and 3 pounds but it was an emergency c-section so I did not have to be in the hospital long but they had to stay about a month and be transferred 3 hours back closer to home... I could not imagine using bedpan, I admit its a huge fear of mine!! LOL
