Guest guest
Newbie Questions: 1.) Can anyone tell me, through their own experience, what side effects they have experienced using methotrexate? I am considering asking my doctor to prescribe it (by injection) along with Folic acid. The Celebrex just doesn't do it for me anymore. Besides, I am not comfortable with what all been said about it recently. 2.) Has anyone heard anything about " ethanol ethyl acetate extract " ? Otherwise known as " Thunder God Vine " . A well known Rheumy (Dr Lipsky) has done research and studies on it. Tell us if you know anything about it please. http://www.niams.nih.gov/ne/highlights/spotlight/2002/thunder.htm 3.) Does anyone take seriously, the relationship between Allergenic Foods and Rheumatoid Arthritis? http://www.thorne.com/pdf/journal/4-6/Rheumatoid Arthritis.pdf (see the chart on page 3 of 11) I have both Food Sensitivities and RA. I truly believe that eating the wrongs foods drastically effects your our RA condition. (Don't expect that very many traditional MD's will agree, afterall, if we all get better they wouldn't have a job.) I also am pleased to say that I have an upcoming appointment with a man considered by some to be the best Allergist in the Country. I can't wait! Any help appreciated. Guest guest
, I have taken metho for a long time now. I do the injection due to stomach problems, nothing to do with the metho. The only problem I have had is I had to increase the folic acid to twice a day. Not a big deal at all. For me this form of metho works well. I know when I had to come off of it, due to surgery. I knew within a short time that I needed it. Hope this helps. Lynn (MeMom) Original Message: ----------------- From: ju2346 priley@... Guest guest
Hi . I was on MTX for awhile, and the only problems I had was elevated liver enzymes. My rheumy took me off of it. But my readings tell me that this doctor may have been to conservative. Some RD's don't think it's a problem for liver enzymes to double while on mtx. I am currently waiting for the shortage of injectable mtx to be over and I'm going to try it again in conjunction with the Enbrel I've been on for 6 years. Enbrel and mtx is a very good combination according to the research, so I'm anxious to try it. I tried the oral mtx and it gave me extreme GI pain, so that isn't an option, although now they have other meds that could counteract the GI problems. The only thing I know about the Thunder God Vine is the same thing you've read. I'd like to try it, but I'm wary of trusting that what I get will be pure and genuine. With so many stories about these supplements not containing what they are labeled, it makes me cautious. I am one that believes strongly in the link between food and RA. There is just way to much published not to take it seriously. My thoughts on this subject are that some people diagnosed with RA really have a food allergy/intolerance. The food we eat interacts with the immune system, and anything that can interact with the immune system can cause it to malfunction. When I cut meat out of my diet, my entire GI system changed dramatically. I had no idea that meat was making me feel so ill until I stopped eating it. I've also cut my dairy intake dramatically. Please let us know how your appointment goes with the allergist. a On May 12, 2005, at 6:52 AM, ju2346 wrote: > Newbie Questions: > > 1.)
