it has an extremely high alcohol content and you are right it is only dangerous

to kiddos that put their hands in there mouth. Good news is there is an

alternative out there new on the market called Clean Well it is all natural

plant based and alcohol free. It comes in a pump spray bottle and sold at Target

stores. I think it smells a little weird and is a little expensive compared to

traditional sanitizer but it os easy to use and is supposed to be safer for

infants and children. I learned about it at one of my moms group meetings. we

get to demo new products before or right at launch to the public. it is cool

because iy may be 1500.00 stroller or nifty little gadgets that a mom imvented

to make life easier. so we have lots of cool goodies no one has ever heard

about.

I got an email from my sister-in-law about dangers of hand sanitizers. Not that

it is bad to use, but if little ones get a hold of it, it can be dangerous. It

was confirmed on Snopes. I just thought some of you might have a kiddo like mine

that loves to taste everything. Here is the link to check it out for yourself.

Angie:

Thanks for the info. My little guy sticks his hands in his mouth constantly, so

I keep lotion, hand sanitizer and similiar items off of his hands. Not good for

the monkey digestive system.

And let me just say I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who Snopes everything

before I pass on any information. It's to the point now that I often post the

Snopes info and reply to the 9,999,999,999,999,999 forwards of " lethal " ,

" extremely toxic " , and " potentially deadly " items on a daily basis.

Thanks for the info about Clean Well. My oldest son has Molluscum Warts (he got

from a kid at daycare) and is constantly using hand sanitizer after he touches

the warts. They are very contageous and we are in the very painful process of

having them removed so he uses the hand sanitizer so Vinny doesn't get them.

He's actually become a little OCD about it. Vinny actually grabbed his face the

other day where the wart is so I put hand sanitizer on his hand but it was the

thumb that he sucks. I tried not to get too much on his thumb but I figured

that it wouldn't be as bad as the warts. I'll definately check out the Clean

Well. Thanks again.

No, you're not the only one who does that Mike! In fact, if someone's " spread

the panic " e-mail references Snopes, I make DOUBLE SURE to check it out! I've

actually gotten some e-mails from people who put " snopes-approved " or some such

message on it just so people will believe them. It's pretty funny when I go to

Snopes and part of their article about the subject says something to the effect

of " ...and no this hoax is NOT Snopes approved like it says it is! " I always

copy and paste the snopes link disclaiming whatever urban legend it is and reply

to all, so everyone will know the truth. Of course, the same old people keep

sending out the urban legends. They just can't help themselves, no matter HOW

MANY times they are wrong! LOL!

yep! I am the same way! I always check it out first. As for the hand sanitizer I

had heard about that a while back and I agree that the hand sanitizer can be

dangerous if you dont make sure it is rubbed in completely first.

Angie and group,

Once the hand sanitizer is dry, which only takes a minute of waving your hands

to air dry, the danger of alcohol poisoning is virtually extinct. We make a game

of it and shake our hands and dance around when we use it, which is quite

regularly. I have a 2 year-old that sucks his thumb all the time, but I have

taught him we have to wait a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate and he

does the hand shake dance also. We get a lot of giggles at the same time.

Once the alcohol evaporates, the danger is gone also.

, How " legal " is that for a child to be at a daycare with a communicable

thing such as this? I am not sure what M. Warts are, but if they are that

contagious, then why doesn't the daycare ban the child until they are removed

and he/she is safe to return wthout contaminating others?

Just curious if anyone has mentioned that?

I would be so infuriated.

,

I didn't realize he had them until it was to late. When I told the school about

the warts they said that the kid who had them was gone (he went to public

school). In Feb. I had to pull my oldest out of Montisorri and put him in

public school because of financial reasons. He came home from school one day

and told me he found the kid who gave him the warts and when he said something

to him about it the kid told him his mom said not to say anything to anyone

about them. Can you believe that!!!!! I was the first one to tell all of my

sons friends moms (my friends outside of school) and also notify the school

about it. In a situation like that, embarassing of not, you have to let people

know and then give them the choice wether they want to let their kids be around

your kids or not. When my son told me that I was livid!!!!! I ended up telling

the teacher and they handled it. We are on the second treatment now and it just

keeps getting more and more painful for him. Once the doc applies the

treatment, which is acid based, you have to wait 4 hrs and take a shower to wash

it off. Well when we went into the shower this time he was screaming his head

off. My husband (we are still seperated) pulled up in the driveway and he ran

into the house because he heard ie screaming from outside!! The medicine

not only burned the warts but also the skin around them. So you can imagine how

I would not want Vinny to get them because its either treat it or let it go away

by themselves in 7 years, what would you do?

How horrible!!! Yeah, the Mom did not want him to tell because it is a highly

contagious herpes related virus (I looked it up after my posting) and it lives

on inanimate things also!!! So, anything that kid touched (or now your child

touches) can transmit that virus.

I think I would notify the local public school just because this kid and Mom are

hiding it. It would be interesting to know how the other kid got it?

So sad....I bet you were so angry.
