Guest guest
Hi, As I mentioned I am new--so I might as well ask some specific questions. Have most of you had bronchoscopies? Sorry for spelling-- scopes down into your lungs. Have they ever yielded anything important for treatment purposes. Also, has anyone been told they may have to consider taking out the infected part of your lung (resection surgery or something like that) if repeated spells of coughing blood can't be " controlled " . I don't mean to be so serious as I see many of the entries are more lighthearted, but I joined to see if there's any info among you on this. Thanks,

Hi : My Bronchiectasis is spread around and is considered mild as yet so surgery is not an issue for me. However my respirologist told me that for those whose Bronchiectasis is contained in one lobe and have severe syptoms, removal of the lobe brings relief. Guest guest
Hi , I have had four or five different bronchoscopies. Some I had almost forgotten had been done, because they were done during lung (VATs lung biopsy) or other surgery. A respirologist also gave me a lavage, clean out (not a real lavage, but similar). Although, I have had difficulties with hemoptysis associated with lung infections, however not severe enough to qualify for embolization. Since my bronchiectaisis is considered an advantaged stage lobe removal is not an option. In my case, lung infections would continue and bronchiectasis would be progressive. Guest guest
Dear Liz--How do they "stage" bronchiectasis? By the area of the lung affected? Have your Drs. found any way to limit the spread of the areas affected? Do you use a lot of anti biotics? Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to get my mind around this. Thanks for your feedback! Oh and what is embolization? Holt wrote: Hi , I have had four or five different bronchoscopies. Guest guest
Thank you Gwen, I have a feeling I am falling into this category--severe bleeding and limited area of infection but...how do I know I won't develop same symptoms in another part of my lung once diseased area is "cut out" This i need to find out. Thanks so much, "G.I. Guest guest
Hi , been through he same thing, bronchcoscopy/lavage. Just found out last year that a lavage is not a cleaning as I assumed. It's for biopsy purposes. I had about 10 through the 40 years. Guest guest
, I have had blood mixed with phlegm for 20 years now. I get treated with antibiotics and it stops. Obviously it's an infection. I never had a lung resection. The bronchiectasis is minimal as my respriologist says, but I have horrible symptoms at times. I blame it on pollution, Karin asked: > > Also, has anyone been told they may have to > consider taking out the infected part of your lung (resection surgery > or something like that) if repeated spells of coughing blood can't > be " controlled " . > > Hi : My Bronchiectasis is spread around and is considered mild as yet so surgery is not an issue for me.
