Guest guest
I wonder if anyone in the group has any experience with the use of statins. I was on simvastatin, one of the cholesterol lowering drug, for about 6 months when I noticed some problems with my urine. Subsequent checking revealed protein in the urine although other parameters were within normal limits. Ever since, I protein level has been going up. I am scheduled for further checks in a few months time. I am not sure if the use of statin might have precipitated my condition or it may have been just been a normal progression of a kidney ailment that just showed up at that time. Would be grateful for any input from the group members. By the way, let me conragulate Pierre and the other members for maintaining a lively and most of all a very informative discussion group. Guest guest
Hi Selva. Did you have kidney problems before the Zocor? More likely just a coincidence, but with the powerful drugs of today, anything is possible I guess. I've never taken simvastatin or any statin myself, but high cholesterol is a common problem with IgAN, and statins are commonly given to IgAN patients for this, so if increased proteinuria were a problem, I would think someone would have noticed this before. Oh, and thanks for your kind words. I'm just happy that people find this group useful, and I'm encouraged by the high level, and high quality of message traffic.
