I'm a parent of a 15mth old. I was dx autistic at 2yrs, but it was

'revoked' at 2.5yrs because I was reading fluently. Guess they'd never

heard of hyperlexia back then. Didn't change the fact that I still had all

my autistic behaviours and used the books I had read as scripts for talking.

Back then, if I hadn't read it, I couldn't speak it.

Welcome to the group. How old old is your daughter?

Hi,

I'm a mom, jypsy of Ooops-wrong planet is a mom, Alyric is a mom,

Louise (signs her name Louis) is a mom, there are a couple of dad's

here, but I can't remember their names.

jypsy's site has everything. www.planetautism.com. But I don't think

there is much for people with Autism who are parents...Maybe

" Aspires " . I can't' remember the web address, but Aspires has lots of

stuff for autistic people who are in relationships, and I think has

things about parenting.

Lots of boards for parents of autistic kids, will in fact have

autistic parents posting to them. The OASIS board on Delphi forums,

might be a place to check. It has tons of traffic.

The general concensus out there is that only children are autistic, so

you won't find much on adults or parents on the spectrum.

If you go to the Aspie Hangout on the Delphi forum it also has a huge

audience and some of the posters there are parents.

If you have a specific issue, " I can't stand to talk to my daughter's

teacher... " Then any autistic might give you advice on communication

in general that could help with that, they don't' have to be parents

to give you good ideas.

No... Aspires if not so much for us as the ones who have to put up with us ;)

" ASPIRES is an on-line resource for spouses and family members of adults

diagnosed or suspected to be on the autistic spectrum. "

http://www.aspires-relationships.com/

Take a look through the links at

http://PlanetAutism.com/AuSpin/community.htm, there might be something there.

There are other autistic parents here (I'm not one of them), but as

someone who's been trying to find information about parenting in case

I want to *become* a parent, I've found the resources on autistic

parenting to be *dismal*. There are a very few personal accounts on

books and websites, and then the only organized group is one that has

evolved (I was there before this was as openly stated, but left for a

number of reasons related to prejudice) to exclude autistic people and

to take a very negative view toward autistic parents (and to exhibit a

selection bias so that only or primarily people who have had negative

experiences with autistic parents will want to join it so their

prejudice becomes reinforced).
