Guest guest
Hi . Lupus can affect men, women, and children of any age, but it occurs MOST OFTEN in women of childbearing age (ages 15 to 45). Your age alone shouldn't exclude you from a diagnosis of lupus. Being ANA negative also doesn't exclude you. A negative ANA test is strong evidence against lupus as the cause of a person's illness, although there are very infrequent instances where SLE is present without detectable antinuclear antibodies. ANA-negative lupus can be found in people who have anti-Ro (SSA) or antiphospholipid antibodies. http://206.161.82.9/education/brochures/labtests.html#2 Diet and these diseases has been very controversial amongst doctors. Some doctors will say that diet has nothing to do with lupus or RA. I personally have read to much that indicates diet can have a profound impact on our diseases. Gluten sensitivity, which is wheat allergy, mimics lupus and RA. Gluten sensitivity masquerading as systemic lupus erythematosus. Ann Rheum Dis. 2004 Nov;63(11):1501-3. Hadjivassiliou M, DS, Grunewald RA, Akil M. Department of Neurology, The Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2JF, UK. m.hadjivassiliou@... CASE REPORTS: Three patients are described whose original presentation and immunological profile led to the erroneous diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus. The correct diagnosis of gluten sensitivity was made after years of treatment with steroids and other immunosuppressive drugs. CONCLUSIONS: The immunological profile of IgA deficiency and/or raised double stranded DNA in the absence of antinuclear factor together with raised inflammatory markers and symptoms suggestive of an immune diathesis should alert the physician to the possibility of gluten sensitivity. The presence of an enteropathy is no longer a prerequisite for the diagnosis of gluten sensitivity, which can solely present with extraintestinal symptoms and signs. Knowledge of the diverse manifestations of gluten sensitivity is essential in avoiding such misdiagnosis. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi? cmd=Retrieve & db=pubmed & dopt=Abstract & list_uids=15479903 & query_hl=5 On the other hand, lupus is a disease that can go into remission. Who's to say that Jill Harrington, author of the Lupus Recovery Diet, didn't just go into remission? Many people swear they have gotten better from this diet, but just be careful about what you read on the internet. Anyone trying to sell books will make untrue claims in order to make a profit. I've read many views on diet and disease, and my belief is that diet HAS to play a role. It's proven that nutrient deficiencies cause disease. There are many reports of cures for various diseases from mega doses of vitamins. I've posted many articles that show a correlation between disease and deficiency, disease and allergies. I've seen a huge improvement since eliminating meat from my diet. Drinking a lot of water has also made a significant difference. I have not tired fasting, although it is tempting since symptoms seem to decrease during a fast. I don't have lupus, I have RA so this recovery diet isn't something I've tried. If you decide to try it, please let us know your results. a On May 20, 2005, at 4:40 PM, julie cameron wrote: > HI my name is I have recently been dignoised with RA by my > family Dr. Saw the Rummy last week he is testing me for Lupus said I > was showing a Lot of signs for Lupus although my family Dr. said my > ANA came back negetive and that I was to old to get lupus (age 64) > anyway my question is have any of you tryed water fasting then eating > a plant base diet????????
