Guest guest
Thanks very much, my beloved group, for all of the sweet birthday wishes, public and private. I deeply appreciate each one. For the curious minds: I am 46 now. I wish I could tell you that yesterday was a fantastic day for me, but here is the sorry rundown: Shortly after waking, thunder and lightning violently shake and zap the house, frightening all three occupants. The highly annoying alarm on the battery backup for the main sump pump goes off, and I have to go to the basement and see what the problem is - a power surge, I think. I thank God promptly for no evidence of water or a permanent problem. All I had to do is reset the alarm. I decide that my youngest son will be struck by lightning if he is allowed to walk to the bus stop and wait. I drive him to school in the messy weather. As I shiver in the car, I also realize that the temperature is approximately 40 degrees lower than it was the day before - a record drop. Then I come back home and start to make myself some coffee when a blinding migraine aura hits. I decide to forgo the coffee and go back to bed to try to sleep it off. Several hours later, I wake up. The headache is gone, but my head feels bruised, and I am sad that I wasted so much of the day sleeping. I return some birthday calls, make some brownies, and, soon afterward, my oldest son comes home from school. Then my ex-husband Alan arrives. My youngest follows not long after that. Alan and I make a short visit to the little girl next door - she is named and shares my birthday. She is thrilled to see that we have gifts for her, but she is visibly afraid of Alan. We leave in a hurry before she cries. I wanted to see the new " Star Wars " movie, but it isn't out yet. So, I chose " The Interpreter " (and thought of Tess and Heidi). Just when things were getting exciting, the lights go on, a courtesy message appears on the screen, emergency lights start flashing, and we are instructed over the PA system to calmly leave the building because there is an emergency situation. Once in the lobby, we hear the approaching fire trucks and police cars. Apparently, there was some sort of fire somewhere. The management started to hand out rain checks, but some employees said that there was a possibility that we would be allowed to return to our movie. Several minutes after watching lots of firemen stream in with all sorts of interesting tools and weapons, we were told we could return to our seats if we wished. We went back in and resumed watching the movie where we left off. Maybe five minutes into it, a manager and usher came up to Alan and asked him if he paid for the second round of snacks. He said he did and that he placed the money on the counter. The truth was good enough. They left and didn't return. Really strange. Of course, I then had to attempt to explain to my sons what was going on without disturbing those around us. The movie ends, we return to the car, and there is a $60 ticket on the windshield. Alan's license plates had an expired sticker. I felt so bad for him. What an expensive movie outing! We are supposed to meet my daughter for dinner, but so much time has elapsed because of the fire that it was now getting late. Also, we had eaten so much while at the theater that the four of us were not hungry any longer. We call her to cancel and reschedule for the weekend. The boys and I return home to watch a " Curb Your Enthusiasm " DVD (a present) without incident. Lots of laughs. I then get a phone call and learn that someone close to me has been hospitalized because he is suicidal. For those of you who do, please pray for him. Thanks again for all of the good thoughts. Guest guest
wow that stinks! We woke to lightening and thuner that day, here, too. what a way to wake up, but at least we did not oversleep for school! LOL One year I let my dtr have a sleepover at a hotel with a pool for her birthday. 6 little girls and of course up into the wee hours in spite of swimming the ENTIRE day- 5 am horrible sounds, a fire in the hotel! Me panicking with all these kids belonging to other people, trying to wake them and evacuate into a winter predawn cold - ACK!. They let us back in but an hour later, they had the alarm go off again. There really was a fire, but, they contained it cuz it was very small....but it sure was scary on an upper floor with all those girls in niteys in the cold with no sleep. I suppose it makes for good memories for later? Another birthday we had for my other dtr, on May 1....our house is so tiny, but May is usually nice outside so we planned an outside party. At cake time, a tornado came! we DO have a basement BUT my mom and my youngest brother (27 years younger than me) decided to leave even tho they do NOT have a basement, cuz my lil bro is SO afraid and was hysterical. so, mom, her hubby and bro left, which upset the rest of my siblings, so they followed mom home, and took THEIR kids.....and the party ended. Of course I worried about all of them DRIVING in a tornado. And I was SO mad at them for being so dumb as to go out INTO the darned tornado. Well, after this year, next years birthday HAS to look good, doesn't it? It has to be better? SOmething to look forward to? Happy birthday, I am 46, too!
