Hi All.

Can someone please let me know if they are using a pain patch? I know

there are different types and the costs vary. I am having malabsorbtion

issues, so will be switching to a pain patch next time I see my doc. I just

don't know a thing about them or how effective they are.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Hi there: I have been using a pain patch called Duragesic (Fentynl) for 3

years. I think it is great. It works very good. Now I don't have

malabsorbtion problems. My Doctor started me on them because I needed something

stronger

for my severe pain. I have several issues with pain, RA, OA, Fibro, DDD,

Spinal stenosis, back back from 2 car accidents and a bad shoulder from rotator

cuff injury. So the Duragesic really helps without taking a lot of pills. I do

use Dilaudid for an extra, only 2-4 a day.

They also now have the duragesic in the generic and it is very good. With my

insurance plan it only costs me $15. a month. (Aetna).

Good Luck.

In Canada, I think there is only one " pain patch " , Duragesic. They

contain Fentanyl, a narcotic not related to morphine. I haven't

used them, but my friend with Crohn's disease used to all the time

because she had no gut. According to her, they come in 25mcg, 50mcg,

75mcg and 100mcg. They are over $100 Canadian for a box of 5 patches

with each patch lasting 3 days. Some insurance plans require you to

get approval first before they will cover them at all. My friend had

trouble affording them but she had less side effects, and it worked

better for her.

The duragesic patches you are talking about are now made generic. I have

been using them for 3 years but they just became generic a few months ago.

They used to cost me 250$ for a month supply, now that they are generic they

cost me 15.00$ with my prescription plan of Aetna.

Hope you can get them. They are great.

Sincerely, Colletti

JUST A NOTE, YOU HAVE TO BE ON NARCOTICS FOR A WHILE TO GO TO THE PAIN PATCH

OR ELSE YOU CAN'T START THEM. THEY ARE ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A HISTORY OF

USING NARCOTICS. YOU CAN'T GO ON THEM JUST TO TAKE ONCE OR FOR SURGERY. IT

HAS TO BE FOR ON DWELLING CHRONIC PAIN IN WHICH ONE HAS USED NARCOTIS FOR A

PERIOD OF TIME.

Hi there, I don't want to sound picky but is there any way that you can

turn off your all caps. It is so hard

on my eyes trying to read it when all letters are capital. Thanks so much.

I love this group and really look forward to the emails.

have a nice day,

Corinne

I don't usually use all caps. Just when I am making a point or yelling. You

see I felt that what I had to say was so important that it required putting

more emphasize on my words.

I usually type in red as I have now.

For , who is in Canada, they are still not available in generic.

We don't have as many generic drug makers here but hopefully it won't

be long. You don't have to have a long standing use of narcotics to

try them. Especially in her case with the absorption problems...but

sometimes even half of a patch is too much for someone who is narcotic

naive. It depends on the situation. Some drug plans won't cover them

unless you have tried several others due to the cost.
