Skin and subcutaneous nodules

Solid skin lesion that can be palpated as round or oval shaped. Found at any

depth from epidermis to subcutaneous tissues. Can be a sign of serious

systemic disease (e.g. TB, deep mycoses, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis,

lymphoma and metastases). Also occur from benign (keratoacanthoma) or

malignant (SCC/BCC) proliferation of keratinocytes.Other common,less serious

causes are dermatofibroma, epidermoid cyst, granuloma annulare, lipoma etc.

Epidemiology

Incidence Common.

Investigations Persistent non-tender dermal nodules require biopsy and

culture.
