My best friend's brother stepped on a land mine over there- he was a

19 year old newlywed. Debbie refused to believe he was dead for

almost a year, said it was a mistake. My sister in law's brother was

a P.O.W. He left us a healthy east Texas, farm raised preacher boy,

and came home a haunted skeleton of a man. I have one friend, a Nam

vet, who is in a VA sponsored facility again- he flipped out during

desert storm, and then again when we got into Iraq- it makes him have

flashbacks. He's been in for a year this time. I have an older friend

who flew troop transports over there- he has nightmares about

delivering boys to their deaths. It's hard to explain what it was

like back then to my kids. They think it was all love beads and

grateful dead concerts. God, I wish it had been.
