That is a good article and glad you sent it. I don't know that much about California except the Terminator runs it now. Ha Ha

Big waves have some surfers catching rides to hospital

The anticipation of a huge swell out of the northwest drew hundreds of surfers to South Coast beaches Saturday in hopes of catching some of the biggest waves this winter.

But the anticipation -- some locals had been waiting all week for swells derived from a storm in Aleutians -- also resulted in crowded surf spots. And when the surfers did arrive at the shore, and met waves that Web sites suggested were making a beeline for the California coast, those waves sent some to the emergency room.

By 5:30 p.m., Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital had admitted six people with surfing-related injuries, according to the nursing supervisor. The injured arrived from across the South Coast, including surf spots at Hollister Ranch, Hendry's Beach near Goleta and Rincon at the Ventura County line.

One of those injured was Souza, who cooled his heels for more than three hours at Cottage's emergency waiting room to have his badly bruised left eye looked at.

One nurse came out of the ER and said, "(the surfers) said the waves were great."

But local surfer (and News-Press correspondent) Becky Freeman, who surfed at Devereux, said the waves weren't as big as she had expected.

More than 100 surfers crowded Devereux on Saturday morning and made surfing rather hazardous, she said.

"I saw a couple of collisions," she said. "There were way too many people at this spot."

A strong low-pressure system coming from the outer ocean created 8-foot to 11-foot waves along western Santa Barbara and San Obispo County beaches, according to the National Weather Service forecaster based in Oxnard.

"Surf is expected to gradually diminish in all areas overnight," he added.

Yeah, we get snow…on the

mountaintops about once every three years *laugh*

I saw it once, when I was a kid. Just

enough for snowballs and a small snowman.

The weather is good. In fact, years

ago my grandfather moved here as a young teenager because of the weather.

To make a long story shorter, my great-grandfather lived in Cicero before the

Mafia moved in. He was head of the Juvenile Hall so Capone’s guys made

friends with him. When my grandfather started getting severe asthma, they

paid to move him to Florida every winter, and then later to live with his aunt

in Santa Barbara all year because of our weather.

It’s a big deal here when it hits

near freezing in winter or over 100 degrees for more than a day during summer.

I have some great mob stories, about the “good”

side if you could call it that.

And now you know a little bit more about

California ;)

Drew

P.S. I don’t know why the

article said Hendry’s beach is near Goleta, because it’s not at

all. It’s in S.B. In this area, that fact is a big deal even

if it’s only a matter of 7 miles!

I take my hat off to all you that live in warm area's. I alway's look forward to getting our monthly heating bill during the winter because I know they will average at least 200 to 300 dollars.

I was wondering did you see several years ago on TV when Geraldo thought he found Capone's vault in Chicago. I was dumb enough to watch that whole thing.

Does the warm weather there ever mess with your MS? We went to Disney World in Florida last April and I wasn't too smart and stayed too long in the sun watching there daily Disney Parade. It took me about 6 weeks before I could get out of a wheelchair. I was really worried I would have to stay in a wheelchair forever. Thank goodness it was a temporary thing. That was my first time to Disney World and we enjoyed it a lot.

Here is a photo of us at Disney World, we were having breakfast with the Disney Characters. My parents live in Florida during the winter so we stayed with them and they went to Disney World with us. I am the one holding the video camera.

Here is a photo from the Parade that day. Even with my troubles with my MS I really enjoyed the visit to Disney World and would easily go back again. My 5 year old was at the perfect age to visit that place

Well my wife just came down to tell me our water bed has a leak so we need to help get it drained. We have had that bed since 1988 and have had good luck with it not leaking. Judy say's she has patched it several times and it is not staying. I guess it is time to get a new mattress. See ya later.

Drew,

Didn't I read somewhere that there's a law out there, guaranteeing sunshine?

Oh, and we are supposed to have a cavern near where I live in Pennsylvania, where I do believe it was Capone, who was supposed to have buried money or guns or something, but never came back for it.. But that's a story from my dad's youth.. LOL

Tom,

In this case, because the group mail policy doesn't accept attachments, you've got to include them in the message... Steps to follow:

Click Insert

Click Picture

Click Browse

Find your picture in the directory where it's stored

Click Open

Click Okay..

And voila.. if my directions are correct.. you should see a picture in your email... The only thing I'm having trouble doing, is resizing the picture to make it fit decently into an email

Donna here is a program you can get free off the internet for free to do all kinds of things with photo's I have used it for several years now and they constantly upgrade it.

http://www.irfanview.com/

There is a good way to resize photo's with this program and then just resave the picture to use later.

I enjoy messing with photo's, here is one I made for my Niece she was wanting to give sweatshirts to my parents as a Christmas gift. I put this together for her and used special paper to use on clothes.
