Guest guest
Hi . I can understand your concern. Here is an article that talks about deafness after a cold: " Sudden conductive hearing losses are relatively easy to diagnose and fix. The most common example would be the ubiquitous head cold. It may result in fluid build up/infection in your middle ears. Because the little bones in your middle ears can't move freely in the fluid like they do in air, you don't hear as well. You likely also feel pressure in your ears or your ears feel " plugged up. " This condition normally affects both ears at the same time. Fortunately, when this fluid drains out your Eustachian tubes (which may take up to several weeks), your hearing returns to normal. This kind of hearing loss is quite common, especially in younger children, but is not normally a serious problem and is certainly not a medical emergency. " http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/suddenhearingloss.htm Even though it say it could take several weeks to get rid of the water, I'd see a specialist. Hoping for a quick recovery. a On Apr 30, 2005, at 3:07 AM, ANJILLAH@... wrote: > Hi: > Two weeks ago I had a slight cold. Guest guest
, your problem sounds like one I had many years ago. I had a sinus infection and afterwards I couldn't hear out of my right ear. My family Dr told me he thought there was a pressure build up behind the ear drum and sent me to an ear specialist. The specialist had to lance the ear drum to releive the pressure behind it. I hope you get better soon...........Joyce M [ ] Hearing loss. Hi: Two weeks ago I had a slight cold. It went away in about 2 days but after that I noticed I couldn't hear out of my right ear. Since, I am deaft since birth in my left ear this has been a big problem. I can hardly hear at all. I went to an emergi clinic and the Doctor said I have no wax but probably have water behind my ear drum. She gave me antibiotics for 4 days and referred to an Ear Doctor if it doesn't get better. Well, it is 5 days later and I still can't hear. It is very upsetting. I feel like I am in a tunnel. I am sure it is not related to my RA or anything that I have I guess. What do you think? Guest guest
Hello - I can relate to this problem! About 6 years ago, I had the same experience - fluid in the middle ear that would not go away. It seems like a minor thing to someone not going through it, but it drove me crazy! I, too, had the " tunnel effect. " I am a teacher and in the classroom the kids would talk to me and I couldn't tell which direction the sound was coming from .... to respond, I had to just look around for moving lips! My Ear/Nose/Throat doctor tried several things like anibiotics, steriods, and just waiting - but nothing happened. Finally (at the age of 34) I had a tube put in my ear - just like the little kids get. I wish I could say it was a happy ending, but after the tube was put in I had horrible ear infections, frequent drainage, vertigo, and constant nausea. I was a walking ear infection for 2 years - then RA. I still wonder if the infection triggered the RA, it is not in my family history. Anyway, I still have a permanent hole in my eardrum with frequent ringing of the ears-tinitus. I wish you luck - I'd go see the specialist to avoid possible long- term effects. in Texas > Hi: > Two weeks ago I had a slight cold.
