Hi. Just a thought about Vaseline. From what I have read it can really

harbor bacteria, so depending on what you think your causes

are,(bacteria/yeast/etc.) you may want to think twice about using it. Just

a consideration.

I agree, my doctor told me that it can cause complications and lead to a

nasty infection if it goes inside the vagina, he did not recommend it. So be

careful if you use it.

I guess Vaseline can harbor bacteria but if you keep the area clean...as most

of us do...I don't think it can hurt as a temporary soothing salve. I

wouldn't use it all the time though. I would ask the gyno before using

anything down there anyway if you feel you are susceptible to bacterial or

yeast infections.

My dr. has recommended Astroglide as it is water soluable. I agree that

vaseline may not harbor anything if there is nothing there to harbor. But

it seems that many of us don't know what our causes are, so i would want to

weigh all options. Plus, I just don't like the idea of petroleum (as in

fossil fuels) on my vulva.

Hi Catbird - I have not interacted on the vulval disorders list before but I

am interested in the current discussions on vaseline as I have lichen

sclerosus and I do use vaseline and find it really helpful for my own

problems. Can you please tell me where I can read about vaseline harbouring

bacteria. I would be very grateful - I now its a pain to ask for info

that has already been given but I do need your help!

Warmest wishes

Fabia (in the UK)
