Guest guest
Hi. Just a thought about Vaseline. From what I have read it can really harbor bacteria, so depending on what you think your causes are,(bacteria/yeast/etc.) you may want to think twice about using it. Just a consideration. Guest guest
I agree, my doctor told me that it can cause complications and lead to a nasty infection if it goes inside the vagina, he did not recommend it. So be careful if you use it.
Guest guest
I guess Vaseline can harbor bacteria but if you keep the area clean...as most of us do...I don't think it can hurt as a temporary soothing salve. I wouldn't use it all the time though. I would ask the gyno before using anything down there anyway if you feel you are susceptible to bacterial or yeast infections. Guest guest
My dr. has recommended Astroglide as it is water soluable. I agree that vaseline may not harbor anything if there is nothing there to harbor. But it seems that many of us don't know what our causes are, so i would want to weigh all options. Plus, I just don't like the idea of petroleum (as in fossil fuels) on my vulva. >From: taurusryc@... >Reply-To: VulvarDisordersonelist >To: VulvarDisordersonelist >Subject: Re: Vaseline can harbor bacteria >Date: Wed, 03 Nov 1999 19:30:06 GMT > >Vaseline may harbor bacteria if bacteria is there but I'll bet it harbors a >lot less bacteria than any other ointment out there. Guest guest
Hi Catbird - I have not interacted on the vulval disorders list before but I am interested in the current discussions on vaseline as I have lichen sclerosus and I do use vaseline and find it really helpful for my own problems. Can you please tell me where I can read about vaseline harbouring bacteria. I would be very grateful - I now its a pain to ask for info that has already been given but I do need your help! Warmest wishes Fabia (in the UK) Re: Sea salt soaks..To Kathy > >Date: Tue, 2 Nov 1999 15:12:10 EST > > > >From: ALT11FAFU@... > > > >Kathy, > >I also felt worse at first.
