Guest guest
Hi Jozann, I remember, years ago, reading that over-sweating in the armpit region was a sign of a nervous system disorder/problem. I can't even remember how I came across the article - and never asked my doctor about it - but have you done any research on over-sweating or whatever the term would be and cross-reference it with nervous system disorders? Kathy Is this something to " sweat " about?? Hey everyone, life since Sammy's 'detether' in August '06 has been going remarkably well and we've been living almost worry-free (in regards to her TSC) but I have a question for the group. Before the surgery she had extremely sweaty feet, something many people told me was part of the tether. Once the surgery was over her sweaty feet had gone away. Now 6 months later we are noticing her sweaty feet have re- appeared. However she seems to be progressing and hitting milestones as she should. She's 10 months and stands, walks along furniture and shows me her " big girl legs " without problem. Has anyone had this happen and what was the outcome? I don't want to over react (something I've become quite good at) but I don't want to be naive and miss a signal either. Thanks everyone!! Jozann Mom to Jack 4 years and (LMC/TSC) 10 months-detether surgery CHOC at 4 months.
Guest guest
my daughter never sweats, and i told all of her doctors about it. finally, one day an intern told me that it can be related to the sb/tc and gave her a bunch of tests (skin conductivity?) that showed that she had less sensation on her skin. in extreme weather she could easily get very cold/hot and not even know it. and she NEVER has a fever. melanie --- DK Moulton wrote: > Hi Jozann, > > I remember, years ago, reading that over-sweating in > the armpit region was a sign of a nervous system > disorder/problem. My docs just dismissed it as no problem. I developed some kind of skin irritation from the wetness and had to go see my pcp. He did a culture test on the 'sweat' and determined I had a mild fungus that was causing the sweaty feet. He prescribed Triamcinolone Acetonide cream 0.1% (have tube in front of me). He said thoroughly wash and dry feet, apply cream, put on clean cotton socks. I did that a few times that day and have never had sweaty feet since. And there is about half of this 15 gram tube left. Guest guest
I've never heard that sweaty feet was a symptom of Tethered Cord. I'm not trying to say it is not, just that I've not heard about it, nor do I have it. Were you ever given any information about this, other then being told it was a symptom? I find it interesting, and would like to read. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... Before the surgery she had extremely sweaty feet, something many people told me was part of the tether. Once the surgery was over her sweaty feet had gone away. Now 6 months later we are noticing her sweaty feet have re- appeared.
Guest guest
Does your daughter have Spina Bifida? This type of problem, not sweating, can be associated with it. I have not heard of Tethered Cord being the actual cause, though. I however, don't have that problem, although I do have Spina Bifida - Myelomeningocele( I am under the impression that this is the only type of Spina Bifida they have found it being associated with(. In my years, I have had many medical professionals shocked that I sweat..........of course, I then looked at them like they were odd. lol Not necessarily does not having normal sensation mean you can't sweat. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... my daughter never sweats, and i told all of her doctors about it. finally, one day an intern told me that it can be related to the sb/tc and gave her a bunch of tests (skin conductivity?) that showed that she had less sensation on her skin. in extreme weather she could easily get very cold/hot and not even know it. and she NEVER has a fever. Guest guest
Read, or maybe you have already, my note about Spina Bifida and sweating, or lack thereof. I was just wondering in this specific post about the relation between it and Tethered Cord, specifically. Yes, I understand that there is a CNS connection, however, nor do I completely understand it. Me Nebraska, USA mymocha@... > I read online, and then asked my nsg, if sweating or rather, excessive/more than usual sweating was a symptom of a nervous system or spinal cord problem - he said yes, the article I had read was correct. > > Until my first untethering, anti-perspirant never kept me dry - it could be cold, windy, no nervousness, and I wouldn't stay dry. Then, after my first untethering, I noticed that I wasn't sweating at all, except for when I should be. Which is what made me look to see if there was a connection. (Sort of like how each time I was pregnant, my hairline in the front filled in - stranger things have happened.) > > I don't know or pretend to know the mechanisms behind the spinal cord and sweating, but supposedly there is one. > > > > I've never heard that sweaty feet was a symptom of Tethered Cord. Guest guest
Well my daughter is having the same issues but i never would have thought it was connected. > > Read, or maybe you have already, my note about Spina Bifida > and sweating, or lack thereof. Guest guest
I don't know if this is related but when Ben was a newborn he had underarm BO. It freaked me out. He wasn't really sweaty, but he smelled like a grown many. It went away on it's own before he was a year old. We did not know about or operate on his tethered cord until he was two so I never made a connection. Who knows? ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
