Guest guest
Good Morning Folks I'm going to be a ' squeeky wheel' here and ever so consistent ( or annoying ) whichever you prefer. I urge and suggest that anyone in their teens or young adulthood, who's experiencing lung problems request to be tested for Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. This genetic disorder rears it's ugly head in the early years..unlike your garden variety Emphysema, COPD etc which is dx'd in the late 50s ..etc. Alpha1 is also comparable and closest to our Cystic Fribrosis sufferers..so please..don't dit in the caves of denial..there's proper treatment..unlike treatments for other lung disorders.. Once again..this is the age when early lung problems begin for those of us inflicted w/this genetic disorder. You're at the doctor's anyway..you're being poked ..stuck..and prodded, anyway..it's a simple serum level ( blood ) test. When tested, be sure to tell the Dr you want a ' geneotype ' done as well. That's very very important. Treatment for Alpha1 is not like other treatments you'd recieve. Early dx is so important.
