Guest guest
Sandie in land: how are you ears doing? Any better? My one hearing ear which has fluid behind the eardrum has not improved at all in fact I now have ringing in the ear so bad it drives me batty. I have cut out all aspirin [was taking baby one for my heart daily] because I think it may contribute to this. My pulmonary doc said that being as our lungs are congested most of the time it could have traveled north to my sinus area and back around to my ear! Bah Humbug! I am not a happy Christmas camper this year. Wan't happy with my ENT either, he really didn't want to deal with me and actually scared me so much about deafness that I was in tears when I left his office. Some doctors are so insensitive! I am seeking a second opinion and have already a referral from my regular doctor. Janet in California. PS: At least my bronc flareup has settled down and I'm off the antibiotics! Guest guest
Hi Janet in California <g> Sandie in MD here..lol Anyway..first I'm happy to hear you're off the meds for your flareup. I'm on day 5 as we speak..(sigh) No, my ear isnt any better and I've yet to make a dr appt. I've got other issues to contend with first. Besides, I havent even had my flu shot yet due to all there flareups, back to back..so I'm hesitant to go into a dr's office yet. Everyone up here is being hit with bronchitis and pneumonia and stomach stuff..I really don't need that ontop of everything else. Therefore, I get by the best I can, for now, and yes, it gets on my nerves, but I'm patient..or try to be. Good idea about the second opinion..and a new dr.. Guest guest
Dear Janet and Sunny, I've been so far behind in e-mail. So sorry that you have both had ear infections. They are painful. It is rare for me to get one, but I had one in early November. Janet, this was also around the time that I saw an insensitive ENT. he was not only arrogant and rude, but he completely missed the infection.Told me the ear was just a little red and that my sinuses were fin, wrong on both counts, and I'd waited since August to see him. This happened on a Wednesday and I saw my family doctor on Friday. By this time my ear right ear was experiencing much more pain and it was difficult to hear. Anyhow, my frontal sinuses were pounding last night and I put a hot pack on them and attempted to go to bed early and sleep. I hope that you are both feeling much better soon. Guest guest
I am a little reluctant to have my eardrum pierced to allow the fluid to run out because of a risk of the hole not healing. I don't know, I may end up having to do that as I can't live like this..... Janet in California omg..huh?? does that hurt???? Guest guest
So what was the outcome? Did you ever get your ear taken care of? I am waiting for a second opinion, it is scary and frustrating not being able to hear. My ear feels full and in the morning I can actually feel movement and a tiggling feeling! My forehead feel full too and upper nasal passages [sinus? which ENT denied I had!] I have read everywhere that in time it will clear up, could be up to three long months! I am flying to Europe in May, I had better be cleared up by then or else I won't be able to get on a plane! I am a little reluctant to have my eardrum pierced to allow the fluid to run out because of a risk of the hole not healing. I don't know, I may end up having to do that as I can't live like this..... Guest guest
Sandie, I have that same thing, no pain per se and apparently no infection; but I can't hear myself speak! I hear OK the television/radio etc as long as the volume is turned as high as it can go ... and I'm going to the movies tomorrow evening so hopefully I won't have any trouble, usually the movie houses are loud, right? I have this awful rushing - ocean sound that's getting louder every day and interferes with other sounds that I can barely hear. I can hear people speak over the phone pretty clearly but hearing the phone ring is another problem.... Janet in CaliforniaSunniesback55@... wrote: Thanks for the kind thoughts, . Guest guest
I get too anxious and I have no patience! But I'm a busy girl with a hectic social life and I work ... so any kind of slow down for me especially not being able to communicate is like living a horror movie! I keep pinching myself to see if I am really dreaming.... Yes I would be careful of leaving your home to get a flu shot, you know you need one but the germs from other people especially in the clinics/hospitals are rampant right now. Better go with a mask on or not at all I say! Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Janet, My ear has cleared up. Fortunately, the infection had not yet spread to the inner ear, but would have without treatment. I found it very uncomfortable, painful and it was difficult to hear, so I have much empathy for you and hope your ear (s) are better soon. For my sinuses I just do rinses with salt and baking soda and also use a steroid spray. The rinses and steroid spray (Beclomethasone) are helpful, and I also find putting heat over the sinuses and using a percusser and pressing with my finger (like acupressure) all helpful, but I still develop painful sinus headaches and bending over is brings about pressure and pain. I used to use Nasonex and Flonsae, and found them to be better sprays, but they are not covered for me, so I’m stuck with beclomethasone which has been okay for me, but I think the others work better at least in my case. Hope this helps:0) Lize-mail:maryholt12@... or lungsformary@...Pre-Lung Transplant Journey - For updates please visit my carepage and leave a message. Guest guest
Thank you so much! I used my facial steamer last night along with my nightly humidifier. I also have a steroid nose inhaler and take decongestants plus I have a sinus rinse too. So I am doing everything I can but my hearing is so diminished and that ENT didn't want to do anything because it is the only ear I "hear" out of. I guess any type of invasion-intervention into my remaining good ear is a risk and he kept on about it ... he was leary of a lawsuit I think. I didn't even tell him I work with medical malpractice lawyers ... he must have found out somehow? America, God love it! Janet in California Holt wrote: Hi Janet, My ear has cleared up. Guest guest
Yep, this is what they do with little children, an extremely common ailment and "cure" here but on adults it is a little unusual. And adults are different. We heal differently too. So there lies the "risk" but I worry about the fluid left in the ear that may be damaging my hearing. I will get another opinion but like anything else, it all takes time.... Guest guest
Sounds like Tinnitus.
Guest guest
Yes, I believe it is, frustrating! I do have some good news: luckily I heard my phone ring and I was home to answer it because it was my second opinion referral doctor making an appointment for me for next week! Am so pleased. I have to travel a bit to get there, much larger city facility and this doctor is the Chief of Head Surgery! So if he can't figure me out noone can! I was told that several patients get referrals to them from my area ... wonder why? I have a feeling my ENT doc does not have a good following!
