Guest guest
Hi , Thanks very much for the info. I'm sure I will need to start taking some bone medication sooner or later, so it's good to get some feedback. I hope you get a good report for your next bone density test. Best wishes, Bunny
Guest guest
Thanks Bunny! I am still taking the Prednisone so, they probably won't check the bone density for a while. Take care! Guest guest
Hi and Bunny, After being diagnosed with osteopenia in December of 2003, since that time I have been taking calcium with vitamin D supplements. My doctor thinks the osteopenia is associated with prednisone that has been required one and off and at times frequently over the years. Ideally, I want to thwart off osteoporosis. I do drink a lot of milk, and eat dairy products. Anything to avoid osteoporosis. Thank you for raising this important topic. Guest guest
Good Morning and Bunny, I am pretty new to the group, but wanted to share some information regarding Fosimax. I have been taking this for quite some time, but have recently seen information regarding jaw death that has been contributed to taking this med. I am going to contact my GP since I already have osteoperosis and lost 17% bone mass in the r hip over that last 5 years. I am focusing taking calcium with D and magnesium. Recently started a strength building class to try a more natural way of maintaining bone mass. Guest guest
Hi, Ask your doctor about BONIVA. It is a new drug that you only take once a month and it can prevent osteoporosis. Marsha

Guest guest
I am at the osteopenia stage. My doctor told me that it could take two years to see any improvement but has never said that it is only effective on the spine. I think that should be a huge concern for all of us. My mother has severe osteoporosis and was recently switched from Fosamax (which she often forgot to take) to an injection of Boniva every three months. She used prednisone for a number of years to control rheumatoid arthritis. Barb

At first I was on Didronel which helped for three years. In 1994 I broke my wrist. Then I was on Mia Calcitonin injections for six months. I started Fosamax when it first became available December of 1995. In 1997 I broke my shoulder. Evista was then added. Two years ago my bone density test indicated that the risk of a hip fracture was increased five times. September 2004 I started the injectable drug, Forteo. I will stop this drug this week as the pharmaceutical company indicates that it not be used for more than 24 months. I am to have my bone density Tuesday. My parents both had osteoporosis. Norma Barb Erdmann wrote: I am at the osteopenia stage. Barb
