Guest guest
Despite the pain and (justifiable) anger generated by the latest trolling incident on this group, and in addition to the incredibly intellegent and powerful defenses presented, perhaps we can gain something else. The charge was that this group is too hysterical. Actually, from my reading of it this group it is too calm. Dozens and dozens of great informational posts (thanks Barb!) but the discussion level is almost nil. Is that hysteria? Then someone we don't know but who has (alleged?) medical credentials makes a claim of hysteria and suddenly there are dozens of e-mails discussing hysteria. Is that hysteria? Are defenses in and of themselves hysterical? Are emotional outbursts sufficient to prove hysteria? Quite frankly, I saw little if any hysteria even in the responses to Alan Ross. What I did see was expressions of the incredible pain and shame created when harm has been done to an individual and that individual's experience has not been seen by those in authority, by those with the power to heal and/or to demand restitution and redemption. Such an experience is too unique to be validated by traditional scientific studies. A sample size of one can't be statistically distributed. If an experience is sufficiently individualized is it an illusion? If that individual persists in their claim of harm and persists in receiving healing help, is that person hysterical? Always? The greatest hysteria I saw on the posts was the private " obscenity " sent to Marina Eddy by Alan Ross. What I also saw was *abuse* by someone identifying himself with the credentials of M.D. Would a professional, caring M.D. treat hysteria in this manner? Where were his questions to identify what happened to each of you? Where were his questions to clarify what actions you took and to understand the responces you received? Where were his atttempts to help you clarify your experience and then expand your understanding? Where was his leadership to guide you toward healing? All I saw frm him was the opposite. So perhaps this discussion ought to also including defining and identifying *abuse*. Especially by those with the professional training and the moral imperative to first cause no harm and then to heal. Was Alan Ross abusive? Or is there a more precise term to describe what happened? If we accomplish that and it is a benefit to any of you, should we then thank Dr. Alan Ross for being the catalyst for our greater good? Personally, I won't. Our lives already provide frequent and similar encounters with those that are so afraid of hysteria that they must harm others with the charge of hysteria. Instead, let's single out for our honors those that help. And suppose, just suppose, that we are ultimately proven to be hysterical after all - which I don't believe - then those that diagnose our hysteria must help us heal from our hysteria, not vilify us with witch hunt tactics and then suddenly and quietly disappear into the darkness. --------------------- Carl E.Grimes grimes@...
