Guest guest
Hello everyone, I haven't posted in awhile but I try to read all of the e-mails. I'm having a problem with swelling in my right foot, ankle & leg. Went to the Cardio he said its not heart failure or it would be both legs (i really need a new Cardio). Then off to the rhumy who freaked when he saw my left foot and what used to be an ankle, sent me for a Dopler to see if it was a blood clot and took blood. The tests came back no blood clots and on the blood work I flagged on Glucose 111 and the Alt (sgpt) 56 which is my liver. Now my Rhumy wants me to see a Vascular Surgeon due to RA complications which is the elephant foot and ankle. Has anyone had this before? I'm sooooo sick of Doctors, I'm at work now wearing my husbands sandels because i cant wear shoes anymore. I tried to start Remicade but my veins kept collapsing and the Cardio doc thought that it might be from the Prednisone. Now that I have been off it for 2 months I was able to get a treatment but now I'm BIG FOOT. And thank you for that web site on prolonged use of Prednisone, omg I have those stripes on my belly and I never had any children. Take Care everyone,
Guest guest
, so how far up your leg is the swelling? Is there any discoloration? Do you think there is any chance you have a fracture? I hope you will go see the vascular surgeon to get his input on this. Sorry about the prednisone. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Thank You for replying , The swelling goes from my toes to the knee, the color is somewhat red. I had to wait until next Thursday to see the Vascular Surgeon since everyone is on Vacation where I work. I where my husbands slipper on my left foot since its so large. My rhumy told me to see him and tell him its a complication of the RA. My Cardio scheduled me for a Sonogram on my heart for the 17th. Nobody know why this is happening, but it started last Thursday and it will be 2 weeks before i get to the Vascular doc. My Rhumy tested me right away for a blood clot on both legs and that came back negative. Strange huh.. And my Liver ALT (sgpt) flagged at 56 and my Glucose flagged at 111. I only take 10mg of mtx of Fridays because thats all my body will allow me to take and I dont drink ever and since my veins keep collapsing I've only had 2 treatments of Remicade. Now i'm off Remicade until they figure this problem out. If its the Remicade, the only treatment left is that daily painful injection of Kineret and I said no to that. Have you ever heard of anything like this happening to other people? I don't even know what a Vascular Surgeon does. Thank you for your help, <Matsumura_Clan@...> wrote: , so how far up your leg is the swelling? Is there any discoloration? Do you think there is any chance you have a fracture? Guest guest
, I'm very sorry for my late reply. Did you see the vascular surgeon? What did he say? In the past, people in our group have described similar problems, but, it could be a number of things. I'm hoping that your physicians will work hard to figure it out. Here is an explanation of what a vascular surgeon is from WebMD: " Vascular surgeons are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of diseases of the blood vessels (peripheral vascular disease). Vascular surgeons have generally completed 5 years of surgical training and an additional 1 to 2 years of fellowship training.
