Dear Family,

I have been away for some time. I read the e-mails and try to respond, but

have been in a pretty deep funk. First the eye Dr. said that I am becoming

color blind due to the Plaquinel and getting cataracts from the

prednisone!!!!! Philosophically we should all be color blind, but it was quite

shock to

me. I then sprained my ankle - hurt pretty bad, had a bunch of purple veins

going up a bruise on in inner side of my ankle behind the bone? Had ex ray -

nothing broken :) just a sprain. Next unexpected out of town company and all

that entails - I was saying good bye to them, stepped in a hole and fell on

the same sprained ankle. The foot twisted outward and I have grass stains on

the cuff of my sock where I landed :(........The Dr. was beside himself. Why

am I not being more careful? He did not do ex rays and stated that this was

a 3rd degree sprain, keep in wrapped, and off of it. This hurts like crazy,

it hurts so much I get nauseous. But there is a certain way I can wrap the

ankle and shin, moving it around until it feels like everything's is back

where it should be. I see the Dr. on Monday again. Did you ever feel like

this

disease is a revolving door and if the door of RA doesn't get you the handle

of side affects get you every time? Wow I sound pretty negative, sorry

about this, I am just really tired of the grinding ankle/leg pain.

Please, all of you, be careful with where you walk and what you do. All the

" little " things we used to be able to shrug off, cant's be shrugged any

more.

Please take care and know you are in my prayers,

Gentle Hugs,

Carol M. in CA

Oh Carol!

You have had a rough time, haven't you? Well, you are due for

something to go right.

Your warning to be careful is a good one--just yesterday my husband

asked me where my cane was as I staggered from the car into the bank,

and I told him " It is only a short distance, I can walk " but he went

back to the car and got it.

Two years ago when I stepped in a hole and broke my ankle, several

friends and family members started referring to me as " the Klutz " and

it really hurt my feelings. Follow your doctor's suggestion, and do

try to stay off the foot as much as you can.

As far as the color-blindness goes, you could take advantage of that,

say you have to go to a fashion expert to have them design a whole

new wardrobe for you to make sure you don't mix the wrong colors.

(Please don't think I'm making fun of you, just trying to lighten the

situation.)

You're in my prayers,

Judi

Well bless your heart, you have been having a time of it, haven't

you! Those doctors don't understand sometimes how we get off balance

a little easier than most folks. Maybe you can keep your poor ankle

in that certain comfy position enough to give you some relief. I am

sorry that you've been in a funk, it seems like this disease likes to

throw us the occasional curve ball, doesn't it. Will you have to d/c

those meds due to side effects? I didn't know plaquenil did that- I

was on it for a few years, & no apparent probs. We are sending out

good thoughts for speedy healing, and something fun to occupy your

time while you're off your feet. My kids think that

watching " Braveheart " is therapeutic for some reason. Well, that Mel

Gibson is pretty cute, even painted blue. :o)

Blessings

Carol, sorry about all the trouble you are having. You're right,

just when you think you have a handle on this stupid disease, it slaps

you around with something else. I am having that happen to me now.

Just started the injectable MTX, started feeling better from an RA

standpoint, then get laid up with pneumonia. I haven't been ill

(cold, flu, ect..)since I was diagnosed with RA. I guess I've been

lucky.

Stay off that ankle. I would push for another x-ray. It could be

fractured and the swelling is hiding it. Keep it elevated, wrapped,

and use ice packs on it!! Take care and give yourself a rest...Marina

So sorry about your ankle and that you've been feeling down, Carol.

I almost hate to bring it up, but how is your tongue?

How much Plaquenil were you taking?

Not an MD

I'll tell you where to go!

Hi Carol:

I am so sorry that you are feeling down. What you are

going through with your cats is just awful - I love my

fur critters as my family. In the past three weeks

two of my dogs have died, they were both 12 years old,

but thankfully they just lay down outside, fell asleep

and passed on. I have another dog that I have had for

almost 17 years, got her from a shelter when she was 6

weeks (all my dogs are strays or shelter dogs), and

she is beginning to fail, eyesight and hearing about

gone, getting weaker and her back legs are wobbly

(she's shepherd/husky mix). She has been my shadow

since the day I got her - I pray that she will simply

go to sleep one day as well and that I won't have to

go through putting her down. I have made that

decision for another dog, two horses and a pony, and

it was the best thing for them, but it was so hard,

and does not get any easier. For you to have to watch

your little kitties become sick and know that there is

no cure must be so heartbreaking and devastating. I

feel so badly for you, my friend. I know it's not

much comfort right now, but I am sure that you know

the Rainbow Bridge poem, and know they will be with us

again on the other side, whole and happy, and healthy.

Take care -
