That's not a goofy question, Tess! You can have a bulge in your thigh from a

hernia. I'm assuming you mean pretty high up though - closer to your groin

than your knee, right?

Maybe a femoral hernia? I don't know. Maybe these will help:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001136.htm

Does the lump change at all when you change positions? When you lie down,

does it recede?

I would call about it.

Glad your flare is better. What did your doc say about your scalp?

So glad your flare has eased up. Waiting for mine to do the same. Dang

weather isn't helping. I do wonder though if your weight loss has

anything to do with the extra pain you have been going through. Your

body has gone through some extreme changes and is trying to catch up.

You know how our arthritis hates change of any kind. Just a thought.

Can't say what your bump is, but you will probably feel better after you

see your dr. and he/she can check it out. It may be something you have

had for years but never noticed it. I imagine your new bod is going to

give you a surprise every now and again.

Have a great weekend

Tess,

It kind of sounds like maybe you have a lipoma (a fatty cyst). Of course

the best thing to do is to go in and have someone in the medical field look

at it. Being a nurse that handles 50 or so phone calls a day in a family

practice, we sometimes have to tell pts that all the describing in the world

just isn't the same as seeing it.

Tess,

As Terri says, it could be a lipoma--and I am the queen of lipomas! Is

it painful, and does it move around? Mine range in size from grains of

rice to the largest being the size of a grapefruit, but most of them

are about marble size. It may have been there a long time, but as you

said, you've lost a lot of weight and now you can feel it. Best to let

your doctor decide. I'm glad your flare has subsided!

Take care,

Judi

Sounds like a varicose vein. They can be deep and feel like that. I would

still have it checked out.

Abdominal Hernia, Was your surgery open? I can't remember..sorry. So do

you plan to have it fixed when you get to the point of having plastic surgery

to remove the excess skin? I know around here that is when they usually fix

the hernias...since they are already tightening up the absominal muscles and

removing the excess skin. Good luck on your year anniversary!

After I hit send my hubby also suggested this. Could it be a lypoma, fatty

tumor under the skin. It might have been there all along but only noticeable

now because the weight loss. They are usually not painful, move under the

skin as they are encapsulated...but are rather annoying to the eye and of

course cause you know its there. Hubby has had many removed that were in

locations that were really irritating like around the backside of his waste and

on

his chest.

It could be a rheumatoid nodule. Very common in active RA. Usually doesn't

cause pain or trouble unless it's in an area that's constantly being

irritated. I have several on my hands/fingers that don't bother me at all. But,

the

ones on my elbows hurt most of the time because they're where I lean on them a

lot. They can be removed. But, removal's not recommended because they tend to

come back pretty quickly. I'd ask your RD about it next time you see him/her.

If it becomes troublesome before your next appointment, then give a call and

ask about it.

You know, I have had lipomas, and didn't stop to think that could be it.

I have a small one on the right side of my right leg currently and one

in my back (Dr. has seen ). I had one a little bigger than my current

thigh bump-lump at the base of my skull that had to be removed about 10

years ago. Well, thanks to all for the brain-storming!

Much love...

Tess
