, when I was in nurses training many years ago we were told not to

give patients their B/P medication if their B/P was lower than 116/60. You

were wise in not taking your medication. I have a wrist B/P cuff and it

isn't

reliable at all. I am trying to find a cuff that goes around your arm but

there

doesn't seem to be any in my area...........Joyce M

[ ] A BP Machine

Hi fellow members: This is Colletti. I don't post too much but I

usually read all the posts everyday.

However, I thought this little story was worth mentioning.

I bought a Blood pressure monitor about 6 months ago and it had been working

fine. I even had my Doctor check it out. Well, I have high blood pressure

and 2 days ago I noticed my pressure to be normal. 120/70, 110/60 etc.

although

I started to be getting a bad headache. I bought the machine because my old

one was getting difficult to use but it still worked. Well, last night I

could'nt sleep all night I was a bundle of nerves and my head hurt something

fierce.

Well, again this morning my BP read 100/60 I was afraid to take my BP pills

with it reading that low, so I didn't.

This morning out of the blue I decided to check my BP on the old BP monitor.

Well, what do you know, it read 220/132. I couldn't believe it. I was

really stunned. I thought for a min maybe the old one was wrong but than it

dawned

on me, I wouldn't have this terrible headache if my BP was low.

So, I took my medicine and slowly I saw my BP come down on the old machine.

I called the place where I bought it and they said they would take it back

in

exchange for a new one.

I am getting back to normal now.

I know I could have had a stroke and I thank God I didn't.

I just thought I would tell this story in case anyone is in a similar

position.

Remember a machine is just a machine and they can break too. So just be

aware if you find yourself with this problem.

Thanks for listening.

God bless you all.

Sincerely,

Dear Joyce: Thanks for your reply. The new machine I was using is a wrist

one too. You are right, it is not reliable at all. I have to see if I can get

something better. Although where I bought the machine they only want to give

me in exchange the same kind.

Oh well.

, my husband had a similar problem with the BP machine at Walmart. It

kept telling him his blood pressure was within the normal range. Long story

short, it was way off and he actually ended up having a quadruple bypass. You

are so right that a machine is a machine. We now use a home monitor and I take

mine first because my BP is always normal. That way we know if the machine is

measuring accurately.

I'm so glad you figured out the problem with yours and that everything turned

out okay for you.

Hi: My old machine is a finger one. Everyone told me they weren't accurate

but it has lasted me about 15 years and is still accurate.

Good luck finding one you like.

Sandie: Thank you Sandie for your concern. I'm glad I thought of checking

my BP with the old machine too. The headache was just too terrible, I had to

do something. I almost called my Doctor, I would have if I didn't figure it

out when I did.
