An excerpt from " Diagnostic Approach to Polyarticular Joint Pain " :

MIGRATORY ARTHRITIS

Migratory arthritis is characterized by rapid onset of swelling in one or

two joints, with resolution over a few days. As the symptoms resolve,

similar symptoms emerge in another joint, usually in an asymmetric

location.20,28 This symptom pattern can occur in gonococcal arthritis,

rheumatic fever, sarcoidosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Lyme disease,

bacterial endocarditis, and Whipple's disease.32
