Sandy,

Thank you. I will pass on anything I learn!

You take care yourself and I pray for you as you have to deal with so many of your own ailments and have to care for others. I don't know how you do so much for others with your own pain, breathing issues, and all the other struggles you have.

My love and prayers to you!!

:)

Dear Sandy,

Thank you for the e-mail. We did bring mom in Chinese

food take out, along with her Mother’s day cards and

gifts. Mom was unfortunately, not feeling well. She

was not up to eating anything. She has been having

stomach problems and possibly refluxes for sometime. I

am quite worried about her general health. Dad and I

need to meet with the administrator, as we are not at

this time fully satisfied with her care. Its also

concerning that the home appears to offer few

activities for persons with dementia; although I

realise their minds are progressively worsening these

folks need activities and stimulation. Will let you

know how discussions go.

Tomorrow afternoon, I have my yearly meeting with the

home care co-ordoinator. She is responsible for

authorising nursing care, IV meds, etc.

Thanks again and Hugs:0)

had a catherization last year and the doctor said I was ok. Irecently had a doppler on my legs and that was normal, tooI went to the pulmonary doctor yesterday, which I will write about inanother email.I was going to go to the Asthma/Allergy center but afteryesterday, I figured it was pointless. Thanks,Barbara

Barbara?

Have you been tested for Pulmonary Hypertension? How about Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency..the SERUM LEVEL TEST for A1ATD is so simple..a lot of patients have been misdx'd with asthma .. there are over 50 thou in the US alone who've been misdx'd and mistreated..it doesn't hurt to test..I suggest you talk to your pulmonary specialist and have these tests done..

Sandie - what are the symptoms of A1ATD??

Portland, OR

..

Alpha-1 is a genetic disease of the liver and lungs. It results from a lack of the alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) protein in a person’s blood, which protects the lungs from germs, dust, air pollution, cigarette smoke and other inhaled irritants. Without an adequate supply of AAT, substances in the white blood cells can damage the tissues of the body.

In adults, Alpha-1 often leads to early-onset emphysema that affects the lower lobes of the lung; it can also cause liver disease. In infants, the disease causes neonatal cirrhosis that is often fatal.

I started to notice shortness of breath when I was in my early 30s which quickly worsened to the point I was having bronchiospasms upon activity..walking stairs, gardening etc. I couldn't understand this. After being supposedly healthy into my young adult years I couldn't understand why I was now having lung probs that, as far as I knew, only old folks dealt with..WHY was this happening to me. I found out.

Then at the age of 40 I wound up in the hospital w/serum levels off the chart. I almost died. My liver flared up causing a cyst to develop on my pancrease. I had acute pancreatitis..Liver/Lung. This is a genetic disorder of Liver/Lung. Remember that. Please check out the website for more info.

My grandmother had emphysema..my biological father died from respiratory failure. Back then, little was known about A1ATD . My relatives werent dx'd nor treated. I, suppose, in that light, I'm the fortunate one. I'm the first in my family to be dx'd and treated for this chronic illness. .now coupled w/bronchiactasis.

Oh..I want to also mention..many many folks are misdx'd with Asthma when in fact it's A1ATD.

My own cousin was misdx'd. At his father's funeral we were talking. He was using his inhaler. I asked how come..he told me Asthma..I squaked..yea right..get tested..I'm your cousin..I have A1ATD.

Sure enough..so does he..

Hi Sandy,

It's good to hear you have things under control. I am kind of new to

all this. You wrote that you get night sweats and muscle spasms. I

have been getting them. This is from bronchiectasis?? or the

infection??
