Atypical can still be severe, but sometimes is applied to a milder disorder and sometimes when one is not exhibiting "all of" the classic symptoms. I have an atypical form of cystic fibrosis also known as non-classical CF. Why the labels? Although these labels are applied for research purposes nonetheless I still have Cf that severely effects my lungs, however, my pancreas is not effected, but this can change. approximately 10-15% of persons with CF have a working pancreas, we are pancreatic sufficient and do not need to take enzymes, but this can change. How do we no that I have CF. I had a nasal potential difference (NPD) test done at the hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. According to this specialized CF testing, I have CF. Atypical can be applied when someone's illness does not follow the norm. Some children diagnosed with CF appear healthy, and are not exhibiting symptoms of

their CF. they are "atypical" given that most children with CF have daily symptoms. I was atypical until age 11, but I was born with CF, so being atypical sometimes means not following the typical medical textbooks. Some doctors argue that I do not have CF, but others agree with the diagnosis. I agree that I have a type of CF. It fits. The CF protocol works. In fact, I'm sick again with another infections which will mean IVs over Christmas week and likely well into January.
