Guest guest
thanks. (no subject) This is interesting! CAMBRIDGE INSTITUTE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TYPES Unraveling the Mysteries of Personality Loving the work you do comes from doing the work you love. LIFE COACHING NEWSLETTER February 2006 The Psychology of Liberals and Conservatives A Whole Brain Perspective Essay 4 The URLS for Essay 1, Essay 2, and Essay 3 can be found at the bottom of this email. Part One In this final essay of this series, it is my intention to complete the construction of the patterned psychological core that I believe to be inherent in the Liberal and Conservative worldview. I begin with the two opposite ways through which we perceive the world. Jung called them Sensing and Intuition. THE GIFTS OF SENSING AND INTUITION SPONTANEOUS PERCEPTION “You could say that Sensing types live in the valley. They farm the land and enjoy its bounty. They build a community: they trade with each other. Their interest is on the day-to-day survival of their family and village. And you could say that Intuitives live on the mountaintop. They look down and see miles and miles of land at once. They see how one community compares to another, the roads and waterways that connect them. Their interest is in studying the system and how it might be improved. If there is no smooth road between the Intuitives on the mountaintop and the Sensing types in the valley, the valley people never get to see what surrounds them. They can’t prepare for enemies, or forest fires, or see that there is more fertile land to the west. The mountain people, on the other hand, are stuck with their vision of what’s coming, or could be. They can’t spread the news, or get help in changing things, or enjoy the bounty below.†This was excerpted from the Type Reporter, Vol. 4, No. 1, June 1989. For example, Political Science departments in all of our universities frame all American Foreign Policy discussions through a pair of opposites called Realists and Idealists, which are unconsciously based on Sensing and Intuition: CONSERVATIVES VIEW THEMSELVES AS REALISTS REALISTS LIKE TO IMAGINE THEY SEE THE WORLD AS IT REALLY IS. PROGRESSIVES VIEW THEMSELVES AS IDEALISTS IDEALISTS CHOOSE TO SEE THE WORLD AS IT OUGHT TO BE. REALISTS' ASSUMPTIONS IDEALISTS' ASSUMPTIONS International order is resistant to change so is limited. International politics is based on a competition for power. All nations have good guys and bad guys but are still motivated primarily by self interest. International order is malleable. All people are essentially alike and share a common aspiration. Men of good will ought to be able to solve the world’s problems. BOTTOM LINE BOTTOM LINE REALISTS DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE POSSIBILITY OF WORLD PEACE IDEALISTS BELIEVE IN THE POSSIBILITY OF LASTING WORLD PEACE By now, have you discerned how the categories of Sensing, Thinking, Realist, and Puritan -- when combined with the Tragic/Pessimistic view of human nature -- naturally cohere into the Conservative Worldview and the categories of Intuition, Feeling, Idealist, and Quaker -- when combined with a Humane/Optimistic view of human nature -- naturally cohere into the Liberal worldview? I assert that it is because the patterned psychological core at the center of the Conservative Worldview is organized around the combined pair of the Thinking and Sensing Functions and the core of the Liberal/Progressive Worldview is organized around the combined pair of the Feeling and Intuitive Functions. One again, I must repeat that this statement is not meant to be interpreted and reduced to the idea that all individual Conservatives are Thinking and Sensing Types and all Liberals are Feeling and Intuitive Types. Conversely, it is meant to convey the idea that the Conservative Worldview is constructed upon a preponderance of Thinking and Sensing principles with a Tragic/Pessimistic view of human nature, and the Liberal/Progressive Worldview is constructed upon a preponderance of Feeling and Intuitive values with a Humane/Optimistic view of human nature. ___________________________ Since Jung’s theory of Psychological Types is merely a map -- and the human psyche is actually the territory, I conclude Part I of this essay with the hope of grounding the complexity of the information I've presented within the magical characters from the Wizard of Oz, because they actually embody all the mental functions. Recall the Sensing Function when you remember Dorothy and the Yellow Brick Road because the good witch Glinda told Dorothy that she must follow the Yellow Brick Road, her path of self-discovery, in a land just over the rainbow. Recall the Thinking Function when you remember the Scarecrow who wanted a brain, but was smarter than everyone else. Recall the Feeling Function when you remember the Tin man, who wanted a heart so badly, and was more sentimental than everyone else. Recall the Intutive Function when you remember the Cowardly Lion, because he so longed for the courage he needed to face the future. Guest guest
, Your article was indeed interesting - but it is long and you have sent it back twice to the list now, with a two-word comment. We in Europe pay per minute for online time! Just a friendly reminder, fa (in London)
Guest guest
Dear fa, I can't believe that there is no high-speed cable internet service available in London. Of course, I was shocked to learn that French hospitals were not climate controlled, but that's, you know, France :-). Guest guest
Hello. My 61 year old mother has just been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and yellow nail syndrome. I'm looking for any support or help for her. She was going back and forth to different dr.s in our area for the last two years and they had no diagnosis but she just went to Cleaveland Clinic and that is where she was diagnosed, but they didn't really give her any hope or help. So I'm hoping to hear from someone. Thank you. Check out the all-new Yahoo! Mail beta - Fire up a more powerful email and get things done faster.
