Guest guest
Hi everyone and thanks for your kindness. I don't know what I would do without you all. I have a very bad right foot and apparently have two bones rubbing together causing me obvious discomfort and difficulty walking. I am seeing a special orthopedist who is supposed to be the best next month, but I am so nervous about the possibility of surgery. Someone mentioned fusing of the two bones? Is that what they do? Or do they try orthotic shoes or something else. I would appreciate any feedback on this as this is still pretty new to me. I did have knee surgery so far, but that is it for orthopedic surgery. I understand this will be part of my future, but I am still nervous about the whole process. I will say this RA stinks!!! Thanks for letting me whine and if anyone has gone through this I would love some feedback. You can post or email me at tracierae@... Thanks again. Guest guest
i had a bone replaced in my wrist. that was pretty painful for a couple months. but i've got almost full use of my wrist now so that's pretty cool. i had tarsal tunnel surgeries on both feet. it was harder then the wrist. the crutches stink!!! especially the 2nd foot because the first was just getting it's strength back. but the pain is gone and looking back it was worth it. i hope that helps/ kathy in il
Guest guest
Thanks Kathy. I think if I can feel better afterwards even if it is far away, then it would definitely be worth it. I am sick of pain and it really makes exercise difficult. I had knee surgery last August so had to do the crutches thing, but ended up with a walker with wheels because I was so afraid to fall. I will probably do that again. I am so uncoordinated with crutches. LOL My wrists are bad as well. I suppose something will have to be done about that later on. I guess this will be a very ongoing process. I am glad you got almost full use of your wrist back! That is inspirational! Again, thanks for responding. Tracie Tracie, I am having problems with my right foot also. My right foot feels numb all of the time, especially on the bottom of the foot. Have you or anyone else had this problem. I have RA. Sometimes I walk and look down at my right foot and my house slipper is no longer on it. It might even be in another room and I don't even realize that it came off my foot. When I put lotion on my foot after bathing, I cannot feel when I touch it. I am really worried about this. Thanks....evierae

I'm seeing the rheumologist (sp?) about it tomorrow. I didn't know this was a symptom of RA, hadn't seen it anywhere else. I was kind of worried it might be something else. My feet don't do it all the time, but at least three or four times a day. I'll let you know what the Dr. says. Bill

Guest guest
Bill, Thanks for responding. It is good to know what others are feeling too. I don't have as much loss of sensation as you, just lots of pain on the top near the ankle where the bones rub. I have some loss though. I would love to hear what your doc says tomorrow. I will check the posts. Per chance are you diabetic? I know that sometimes decreased sensation in the feet goes with diabetes. Just thought I would ask. Take care and I will let you know what my doc says in May. Such a long wait. Tracie > > > > Tracie, I am having problems with my right foot also. Guest guest
Tracie, No, I'm not. It does run in my family so that's what I was primarily worried about. My regular doctor assures me I'm not even close to diabetic. Which is a good thing. :-) Bill tracierae143 wrote: > > > Bill, > > Thanks for responding. Guest guest
What is he basing that on? Many general practitioners do a lousy job diagnosing diabetes. A person can have a normal A1c and still have diabetes. Endocrinologists don't use that as a diagnostic tool. Sue On Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at 06:56 AM, Bill Mathews wrote: > > No, I'm not. Guest guest
Good question. I'm not 100% sure, I know I've had a lot of blood work and have been told that the indicators for diabetes have all been negative. I never thought about it much past that, more a whew feeling. :-) On another note, went to the rheumotologist this morning, blood count is very low and I'm dehydrated. Took some x-rays of my feet to try to figure out the numbness. Waiting on the call. Bill Sue wrote: > What is he basing that on? Many general practitioners do a lousy job > diagnosing diabetes. Guest guest
Bill, I am so glad about that! That is one thing you don't have to worry about at least. I do get numbness and tingling in my hands too so it must be part of the disease process for some of us. I would definitely mention it to your doctor as there are sensory studies they can do on the hands and feet. Good luck and I will let you know what I find out in May with the specialist. That is a ways away, but he is supposed to be the best in the state of Maine. Worth the wait I would say. Take care. Tracie > > > > > > Bill, > > > > Thanks for responding.
