RE SOAPware database, audits for Medicare

"Huge" --

1) I didn't put scanned documents into my SOAPware so my database for every note since 2004 on about 1300 pts is about 550megs. I was not very sure about my needs and ability to scan all my incoming consultations, labs, radiology (local hospital has a labs, radiology, H & P etc available on line) NOT integrated), but still was worried about the storage. I'll be uploading or at least converting as I go, don't expect horrible costs.

2) Going forward, I'll be uploading all incoming correspondence and be able to review labs, radiology, etc as tasks -- this will improve my efficiency.

3) SOAPware is privately held by a doc who has been doing this for about 20 years. When I looked at the cost and headache of maintaining a server, at least $15k and my own computer skills, this was the way I thought best. Sure there's possibly some risk -- so I print out all my notes (I could print them to pdf and hold them as well), but eventually would expect not to do this. I'll scan in (or capture incoming faxes) other information for my review to tighten things up a bit. I'll hold the original in paper at least for awhile OR just transfer to pdf.

I suspect that the illusion of stability of EMR access by running your own server is just that, as older versions would require your maintaining that old server.

RE Audits.

Only going back 2 years, so of course I will keep that readily available, good point.

Re: Medicare Take Backs

MattI also use Soapware, since 2004.Database size is huge, over 30gb.Soap ware hosting service is per gigabyte, can be costly.Also they might own the data and make retrievals at a later point difficult if you want your data back in your possession.Steve Horvitzstown, NJ> > > >>>>> > > >>>> any idea where can I get a cheap peak flow meter for my office?.> > > >>>> thanks, adolfo> > > >>>>> > > >>>Â> > > >>>Â> > > >>>Â> > > >>Â> > > >>Â> > > >> I can't believe that medicare is taking money back from 18 months> > ago! If I supbmit a bill after 12 months I can't get paid but now Obama> > care rate changes means they can take money from 18 months ago. SO some> > patients have died some are in nursing homes and I have 4 patients to track> > down! the low checks are ridiculous but this is infuriating.!> > > >Â> > > >> > >> > >> > > --Â> > >> > >> > >> > >     MD> > >    > > >    > > > ph   fax > > > > > >> >> > > > > > -- > > > > MD> > > ph fax > >
