husband, whose name is Les, was diagnosed with RA like 4 years ago. We

live outside of Washington, D.C., and his doc is supposed to be one of

the best in the country. But, this whole time, he's only said that

it's " atypical RA " . Meaning that he has no idea what kind of RA he

has. He's tried EVERYTHING (humira, methatrexate, etc.) Nothing

helps. If anything, he's getting worse, and fast. Anybody have ANY

suggestions? Thank you so much.

Welcome, but sorry you have to be here! Maybe it's time to get a second

opinion??

Hi Kim and welcome,

I am with Nina on this one. After four years I don't care if he is

the president, why not try the second opinion. I am considering it

after just six months with my doc " who is supposed to be the best

around. "

I am sure my husband could relate to your frustation at watching

your spouse detiorate so rapidly and not being able to do a whole

lot about it. The group does help a lot so again welcome!

It never hurts to get a second opinion. They are, after all, only human. They

do make mistakes. And they can't possibly know everything.

I'm in the Northern VA suburbs, andria exactly. My Rhemey is Dr.

Philip Kempt who is next to Arlington Hospital in Arlington, VA. My

last Rhemey was Dr. Leila Zackrison for 2 years. She would never

diagnoised anything. Once I changed doctors after she " yelled " at me,

I was diagnoised with RA by Dr. Kempt, an endocrinoligist he

recommeded found I was hypothyroid and my gastro doctor found I have

colleageaous colitis. I agree with my other peers, no matter how

great a reputation your doctor has, your husband needs another

opinion. Dr. Zackrison was suppose to be " one of the best in the

county " . I don't think she is a bad doctor, she just tries to " do

everything herself " . She never refered me to any other specialist. I

despertaly needed an endocrinologist and a Gastro doctor. She choose

to handle it all. In this world of specialists, it is impossible to

keep up everything that is going on in each specialty. I'm in Vet

meds, so I do know of what I'm saying. Same same.

Tess, you and I began Humira and Methorexate together, I feel a kin

with you. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I'm still on Humira every

other week, thought I think I need every week now. In Jan. I didn't

have swelling, but I felt similar to how you describe you do now. My

Rhemey decided I was flaring and he gave me 3 alteratives., One go on

Humira once a week, wasn't an option unless I was able to receive it

from the manufactures, no insurance, go on Pred.or tough it out. I

went on a very low dose of pred. 10mg. and lowered VERY slow. That

did take care of it. I'm praying for you. You're story is sooo

inspiring!!
